I am looking for a well priced Dual WAN router to use at home. I came across this line of routers, and they seem to fit the bill, but have found no relevant reviews, so was wondering if anyone here had any input.
Thanks!!!!

| reply to mr_mike Hi Mike,
I have been using a Syswan SW24 VPN router for more than 3 months now. I have also installed the Syswan VPN Client for remote VPN access on two laptops.
We have a small network of 10 users and I am using a PPPoE link and a cable link on this box. Configuration was easy and the box works perfectly.
The load balancing features are just great and we have seen that the failover feature is totally transparent and automatic when there is a problem with one of the WAN links.
The only way I know that a link was down is when the box sends me an email alert. Before I had users calling me on the phone. With this dual WAN installation, now they do not even know that there was a link problem.
I did not have any issues updating the box to the latest firmware about one month ago. It took me less than five minutes to upgrade and all my settings were intact.
The box came with complete documentation on CD. configuring the VPN software was simple using the VPN Client user guide.
Hope this helps.

I own a small Computer Systems Integration business with approximately 10 employees. We absolutely depend on access to the internet for productivity and access to our client's systems. Thus, for both bandwidth and high availability, we choose the Syswan SW24 VPN as our enterprise router with two disparete DSL providers (AT&T and Speakeasy). With static IP addresses on each DSL line, we use a rotary DNS which maps inbound Email, Web and other traffic to our servers. In summary, the product seems reliable and works great!

| reply to mr_mike I work in commercial internet & telephone sales for Cox Communications Business Services in one of their largest markets nationwide. I recently came across the Syswan product as I was researching solutions for small/medium size business customers of mine that needed redundant internet connections with automatic failover.
After seeing the capabilities of this product and also the very reasonable pricing, I decided to contact the manufacturer immediately. My first impression speaking with the guys over at Syswan was very good.
The product arrived in a very timely manner and I was able to have it up & running within 5 minutes using the load balancing feature.
One of my biggest concerns going into the Syswan product was the quality of the administration tool. I had heard some horror stories with other lesser known manufacturers about poorly scripted web based admin tools. I am pleased to say that I was very impressed with the web based administration tool on this product. My immediate thoughts were that it was on par or better than linksys, netgear, and d-link products I had worked with before. After using the administration tool for more than 30 days I am now convinced that the tool is much more full featured than those others and yet still very easy to use.
For my tests I have been connected into a fiber optic connection provided by Verizon (FIOS) and a cable modem connection provided by Comcast. I have tested the product on these connections for more than 30 days. So far, I have had 100% uptime reliability for internet access and my VOIP phones. This is a first for me. Usually I would get a call at least once a week from my wife asking "why is the internet out?". I don't have that problem anymore! I get e-mail notifications generated by the box if one of my connections goes down. The automatic failover works perfectly and dynamically, and most important--instantly.
Finally, the router has not had to be reset even ONE TIME. That is amazing as far as I am concerned. The box is solidly built and very good quality. You feel like you get your money's worth with the build quality.
I have even set up some of the advanced features including dyndns, dmz, port forwarding, etc, etc.
100% reccomendation, go with this product you will be pleased.
PS...YES the load balancing works on things like FTP (multi session) & Bittorrent I was able to get an upstream & downstream that exceeded the total capacity of one of my connections. With a 30M/5M Fios & 6M/2M cable I was able to see upload speeds of 7M using a torrent application.

| reply to felix100 Hello Fexix- Thanks for your interest in our products. Hopefully the following will answer your questions:
1.Syswan's SW24 VPN and SW24 VPN Plus support the Windows IPsec VPN client only and is Windows Vista friendly. It does not support PPTP/L2TP VPN client commonly accessed through Dial-up networking. The Windows IPsec client should be sufficient for desktop computers but is not recommended for notebook computers. The Syswan VPN client is recommended instead as it supports Distinguished Local ID which is needed to establish a VPN tunnel from various locations as well as Redundant Gateway to connect with the Syswan through a secondary WAN port when the primary Internet connection is down.
2. Any of our dual WAN or Multi-WAN will perform Load Balancing with a cable connection and DSL with more than one IP. Please see our reply to "Rdeguzman's question below on how the 2nd IP address of the DSL connection may be utilized. Thanks again for your interest in our products. Feel free to contact us at www.syswan.com for any further questions you have. Best regards, Syswan Technologies, Inc. ---------------------- |

1 edit | reply to felix100 Hello Rdguzman-
The sw24 and sw88 supports multiple IP addresses on each wan port several ways, using NAT Alias, Multi-DMZ and finally bridge mode. NAT Alias is commonly known as One-to-One NAT, this function allows you to create rules which forward a range of ports from a WAN IP address to LAN IP address. Multi-DMZ is more basic, it is used to forward all traffic from a WAN IP to a LAN IP. Bridge Mode was designed to place the Syswan sw24 or sw88 in between an existing firewall and an Internet connection with multiple static IP address without modifying the configuration of either the firewall or the Internet router/modem. The purpose is to provide outbound failover with minimal changes to the existing network. The Syswan device acts as a sort of a Layer 2 proxy. When the firewall performs an ARP request on the default gateway IP address the Syswan responds with it's own LAN MAC address. The traffic is routed through the Bridged internet connection without NAT translaton. Failover and load balancing is supported in this mode as well but when the traffic is routed through the second WAN port it is translated through NAT. Feel free to contact us direct with any further questions. Thanks for your interest in our products. Best regards, Syswan Technologies, Inc. |

| Hi Syswan Tech,
I just purchased two of these routers so I can VPN our locations. I love the interface. At one of our offices, I'm having an issue where when I send an attached file through gmail the whole router goes down and I have to do a hard reboot in order to get it working. We're trying it with yahoo right now so I'm not sure if it's that. Have you encountered this before?
