<description><![CDATA[<A HREF="/useremail/u/1544931"><b>ozar</b></A> : <b>Just another quick update...</b><br><br>Something else that has helped my connection a great deal is that I've stopped using those lousy DNS servers supplied by Embarq.<br><br>Now, I get to the site that I'm looking for much quicker, and when that site does not exist on the internet, my browser doesn't get hijacked and sent to the Embarq search/advertisements page.  I was already tired of having to opt-out of that page each time I cleared the browser cookies, so now I'm done with that.<br><br>Hopefully, I won't wake up and find that the better connection has all been nothing more than a dream.   :o<br><br>Still looking forward to increasing the reliability score in my Embarq Review if things should hold up. <br><small>--<br>oz</small>]]></description>

<description><![CDATA[<A HREF="/useremail/u/1561792"><b>Soldae</b></A> : If you have a 660 modem then you shouldn't have been using PPPoE anyway, you would've already been switched over to DHCP in the redback.<br><br>And yes, they expect people to call when it breaks...why wouldn't they?  Most people who had PPPoE were using 645 or older modems.  Embarq is completely doing away with PPPoE and have been since...almost two years at least.  Only recently have they actually started shutting people off so that they have to call in.  They call in, get their current modem updated to work until they get the 660 out to them.  If everyone was sent a notice, everyone would be calling in right away and causing even more of a queue.  They trialed this way earlier this year and found that it hardly caused any impact, and also found a lot of customers calling in were on old plans that, when updated, saved them a ton of money.]]></description>

Turns out that they shut off the PPPoE service in NJ and switched to all DHCP. <br><br>- I have my modem setup in bridged mode.<br>- Switched my router to DHCP instead of PPPoE<br><br>I'm back up and running...   WTF, why was this unannounced.  You change it and then expect people to call in when it breaks?  Gimme a break.  What kind of customer service is that.  No notice in my bill, no email, no nothing.]]></description>

Both, the DSL light and the internet light stay on, but no connection to the web.  Reboot the modem, and all works again for about 30 or 40 minutes then it's time to reboot again.<br><br><b>Edit:</b>  I just called Embarq and got a recording saying that customers in Stephenville and Clifton might not be able to connect to the internet and it would be fixed within 24 hours, so never mind.<br><small>--<br>oz</small>]]></description>
