Yeah the support contract is one of the key reasons to have Cisco gear. If your work is willing to pay go for some global knowledge or some other vendor basic training never hurts. To study on your own would pick up some Cisco press books or quick reference guides never hurts. The best way to learn is to practice setting up cisco equipment. If you got equipment around that you aren't using setting up a practice lab with some switches / routers never hurts. Also grabbing all the configs you have on your equipment and learning what each line of code does is another set in the right direction to understand how your particular network works. Any of these steps / others to learn and use cisco will help you learn.
