posting as new fios ATTcv question

hi everyone. I am posting this as new in hopes of getting all of the information I need by this evening when fios is stopping by. I currently have Comcast TV and internet. I have verizon wired service for my home phone and att CV for a second line with the DVG5102S in front of a motorola SB5120.

Fios is proposing switching my internet over by running an ethernet cable to my PC instead of the coax and bundling my home phone service (currently hard wired) for 80.00 a month for 2 years. they say in this case that the phone is just bundled and does not change to voip.

Big question is: what equipment will they provide for a modem and will it work with my attcv in front. They also say that they provide a "business class" router free of charge on a promotion. I am currently using a dlink dir625 an it works well. Should I use their router?

Any assistance greatly appriciated. I asked then to stop back later today.

Thanks

Re: posting as new fios ATTcv question

I am not familiar with the details of what FIOS provides -- ask in the FIOS forum for that, or ask the FIOS people what router they will provide.

As far as CV goes, yes it will work with FIOS. It is not at all clear how you have things hooked up now, you use the words "in front" but I don't think you mean it the way it's normally used. A diagram would help.

The CV TA could be wired like:

FIOS modem -> CVTA -> Wireless router

or

FIOS modem -> Wireless router -> CVTA

Either way should work, but the first is preferred by AT&T.

You pretty much have to have the connection as follows:
Fios ONT -> Fios Router -> CVTA

In fact, this is what ATT recommends for Fios installs. Verizon will likely provide the Actiontec router, which can be hooked to the ONT via coax or Ethernet. But, you will have to ask for Ethernet at the time of install, otherwise they seem to be defaulting to using coax.

In my case, I have Ethernet, so I removed the Actiontec they gave me in favor of my old Linksys. The wireless range is better. And, I've had no problems with ATTCV using this setup for almost 2 years.

I would be interested to see what they consider a "buisness class router".

Your CV service should work fine. Altho.. if it doesnt, we know who to call.
