We were unable to save your preferences. Please try again.

"We were unable to save your preferences. Please try again."

Perhaps the word of the day.

Could it be Yahoo's turn?

I log into my Yahoo web mail, & on the page there, they have links to some news articles. I open two of them into separate tabs (SeaMonkey).

One of them generates a popup dialog box.

In the title bar it reads: "The page at »news.yahoo.com says:"
And in the dialog itself: "! We were unable to save your preferences. Please try again."

A quick search turns up this: »forums.techarena.in/anonymity-pr···0208.htm

I manually wrote down the text of the message (should have taken a screenshot) & I don't believe anything was misspelled.

I run NoScript, but both yahoo.com & yimg.com are Allowed by default.

This was the particular news.yahoo.com web page that generated it:
»news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20080814/ap_···revealed

Not sure if anything there is suspect or not?

If not in the page itself, then perhaps in some of the JS functions they call. Also looks like what is loaded changes over time.

Could very well be more of the same as what has recently been written of CNN & MSNBC.

Well, I just got the same popup from an AP story on my.yahoo. As soon as I tried to close this story the popup appeared:

New PCs can Wake Up When They Get Phone Calls
»us.lrd.yahoo.com/_ylt=ArpkIizYvY···calls_11

Perhaps someone was trying to call me when I closed it How ironic.

That's never happened before with yahoo). I'm running Firefox with Noscript on a limited user account.

The popup IS mispelled. It read "preferecens" not "preferences".

Maybe someone a little more knowledgable that I can figure out what this is.

Right.
It is misspelled. Missed that originally.

Corrected (misspelled) wording, "We were unable to save your preferecns. Please try again".

Does anyone know what this does to your computer? Is there a way to make it stop popping up?

Well, since no one with more experience seems to know what this is, I've checked by googling the misspelled error message and it apparently is being discussed in other forums, for example here:

Why does "We were unable to save your preferecens. Please try again" come up when I open my e-mail in Yahoo?
»answers.yahoo.com/question/index···4AA7hVMa

It just happened within the last 48 hrs, but thus far no one seems to have identified it it's a bug or a security threat. Kind of surprising that it's not of greater interest in a security forum...I'm betting that one of the AP content feeds has been hacked.
