One the one hand, I don't quite think the "jesus phone" deserves to be crucified over this particular matter. The other 3G phones I've had behave pretty much the same way.

On the other hand, I like that it's making headlines, because pressure like this is the only thing that has any hope of getting Apple, Infeon, and AT&T to sit down and try to resolve the problem.

I second that. I have had two 3G phones. Samsung Sync and Samsung BlackJackI. Have had the SAME EXACT issues that are being described about the Iphone 3G. Standing there with 4 bars of 3G Signal, try to make a call and all of a sudden, no signal. Over the course of checking email, I regularly see 3G, E, G on my BlackjackI all in the same session. I see it everyday. I also asked one of my co-workers about his experience with a 3G Palm 700W and AT&T Tilt. Exact same experience. The problem is with AT&T, not the hardware. They do not have enough spectrum allocated to 3G.
