Re: Stop ads by using ad blockers

please note: the free firefox blockers do NOT block flash ads. I've tested it several times and still see them

ad muncher works great.
it's a small price to pay for keeping sanity on your computer.

BS! The Internet was supposed to be an information resource not a giant flea market.
Key phrase there "supposed to be"... until commercialization raped and pillaged it.

I get info from VONS/Raplhs/Sams Club/CostCo, etc.
Beyond the 'conspiracy theory' part, the data may not all be used at directing junk to you.

I have seen the typical credit card/refinance, etc marketing directed at me, including listing the cost I paid for my house.

Typically, club card data mining is used within to find out demographics, who buys what, and more general trend analysis. Bean counters pay good for this kind of info.

club card mining is how you get pepsi coupons from that printer when you always buy coke. what i learned though from working in retail food is atleast on that front you are just a number.

So I should spend money on bandwidth and hosting and other thigns just so you can surf for free? See the whole point is that if you are going to COST me money I don't want yo on my site in the first place. ...
Just because you invest time or money in something doesn't automatically make it worth anything to anyone else.

Besides... hosting is so cheap these days, I have to wonder exactly what you're serving that you are worried about any of this. I mean, I pay roughly $6/month for up to 100GB of bandwidth, 10GB of space... and this is not a very liberal host by some standards!

Since the subject came up....
I was surprised to learn that data collected from set top boxes about customer viewing habits are being matched up to what you buy at the store when using these membership cards.

Its been shown over and over and over that these cards save the consumer absolutely nothing. Yet people continue to use them anyway, go figure.

I couldn't find the article right off hand but, there was an article some time ago about how insurance companies were one of the best customers of shopper data collected with these cards. Buying cigs? Beer? Fatty foods? You may be a financial risk to their bottom line.
