Cancelled Sympatico - Interesting Retention Script

I've just finished cancelling my Bell Sympatico service and signing up for Teksavvy. My call into the Bell CSR was interesting and involved the following:

-Offered to drop my current rate closer to the TSI rate (a bit too late methinks)
-Tried to tell me that ALL ISP's, including TSI, throttle their customers. Then later, asked me if I knew that TSI went through Bell for internet so I'd still experience service throttling (interesting about face)
-Told me that ISP's had been mandated by the CRTC to throttle their clients because other low-bandwidth users were complaining about service issues (the CRTC!?!)
-Asked me if I knew about the new possible legislation that would charge people $5000 for downloading content (very sly!)
-Told me that Bell is also better because they offer 24/7 technical support and when there are service interruptions they are almost immediately fixed (great, thank god TSI uses Bell lines then!)

I must say that the CSR was very pleasant and knew the TSI/Acanac plans inside out but was obviously reading from one of their retention scripts so I didn't bother to argue about most of this. As well, I've had great service from Bell over the past 8 years but their published High-Speed rates cannot compete with TSI and others and the throttling/bridged mode options from TSI are complelling advantages that furthur tip the scale.

Anyway, thought I'd share some of the funnnies from this call and I'm looking forward to my new service.

Cheers

My latest Bell bill contained a notice that my 5-meg, unlimited (grandfathered) service would be going up to $47.95, so I went on their website's chat feature and told them I was cancelling. They immediately offered to roll back the increase. I said not good enough, and referred to Acanac's prices. They offered to drop to $40. That's still twice Acanac, I complained, and they came back at $35. "Still more than TekSavvy", I said. "OK, you can have it for $30".

Sorry, Rocky et. al. On a new signup, I'd be with you, but until Bell (inevitably) screws up again (or until you win at the CRTC, and Bell stops throttling you) the inconvience of changing means that I'll be with bell for a little longer.

One other thing of note. They offered to switch me to "Essentials," their 2 MB service, to save money, at the low price of $34.95 per month -- even though it's advertised at $32.95 on Bell's web site!

Lol .. 2 people sucked into Bell's hole.

btw, did you know for an extra 10$ you could have had 5MB service with NO CAPS with TSI ? .. or you rather get the 2MB service with a side of bullshit

StillSuckered,
Haha good luck with that.

As DJMassacre said, with $10 more, you could have unlimited no caps. There's also a way of evading the throttling through TSI. Not to mention No contracts, true customer service with no lies and deceit, and great overage charges of $0.25 a gig if you are on the 29.95 200GB plan.

This is a no brainer.. but I guess I don't need to say more.

It's been said time and time again that a lot of companies will count on customer apathy to maintain crappy service and more expensive prices.

This was a live example.

But, wouldn't it be hilarious if Bell loses it's case against the CAIP for throttling and pay per usage.

They will have managed to skewer yet another (series of) customer(s) without even trying.

It's nice that the person was "pleasant" but then when they are being paid to read the following off to you

"-Offered to drop my current rate closer to the TSI rate (a bit too late methinks)
-Tried to tell me that ALL ISP's, including TSI, throttle their customers. Then later, asked me if I knew that TSI went through Bell for internet so I'd still experience service throttling (interesting about face)

-Told me that Bell is also better because they offer 24/7 technical support and when there are service interruptions they are almost immediately fixed (great, thank god TSI uses Bell lines then!)"

And the entire message is a damned lie, does it matter if they smiled while they lied to you?

Dropping the rate, hmm so they charge the same, but offer lousy service, how is that adequate?

Throttling, hmm most of us can show you how you can be UNthrottled even on a throttled service. So no, you don't need to be throttled in most cases.

I don't recall Rocky being told to throttle anyone on HIS service, but that's for Rocky to clarify.
I also don't know any of those complainers (well I haven't seen any personally).

Not sure what legislation that person was referring to.
I doubt the person you were talking about has a clue what they are talking about. But Bell largely doesn't know what they are doing, so why would a phone jockey be better informed eh.

24/7 tech support, HAH, I dumped Bell almost entirely over their worthless support. When you have a problem and it's saturday night, you better understand how to speak the language of India, because you won't be talking to someone in Canada. Likely won't be speaking to a person in Canada regardless of when you call. I never did.

Bell offers lousy service, that costs more than superior service. They offer lousy tech service that can't speak coherent English. And besides, wouldn't you rather support a company that prefers to hire Canadians?
Bell Canada would be the wrong choice if they sold what Teksavvy sells at half the price Teksavvy sells for.

Hey, StillSuckered, you realize I have to point out your account name is accurate eh? There's more to the service, than just the price on the bill eh.

I'm hoping Bell loses the class action suit.
I could use the cash for a nice new HDTV.

How sad that CSRs are forced to act like the worst kind of used-car salesperson.

There must be some way to nail the Bell execs TO THE WALL for spreading this kind of fertilizer.

Regular $37.95 with a $2.00/mo modem rental, so $39.95.

Now take a bundle discount, $34.95 and then take out the unadvertised modem rental of $2.00 and you're at the advertised price of $32.95.

My guess is that once the CRTC issues its decision on throttling and/or implementation of caps, Bell will disable the MLPPP workaround by enabling 1 feature at any of these points in the network:

DSLAM
BRAS/ERX/E320
DPI device

What is this feature? Enforcement of 1 PPPoE session per DSLAM port/VPI&VCI/SC-VLAN. It's a feature available in all the hardware noted above and many other providers globally use it because they control bandwidth not with sync rate but at the DSLAM/BRAS/DPI device processor on a per-port (and therefore VPI/VCI or SC-VLAN.

You have to be a total Bellinquent to believe anything BELL has to offer.

bet his first bill is 47.95 + 20 for unlimited to equal 80 after tax. I bet they have no information on the retention plan he was offered and he will have to stick with it for 3 yrs or pay $300 to get out of it.

Wow...

I guess I was lucky, I had a better experience with them

I call them to cancel,
She said that in case I don't like the other provider, they could suspend my account, then after testing the other one, if I don't like it, I could "come back" easily. Then I was alright. The suspension was totally free, and good for 6 month.

The thing I didn't like was : I got still charged afterward, had to call them and they credited the money...

After ~4 month, quite happy with Teksavvy, I call to cancel, then she said "okay, gave me the # and that was it.."

But now I guess I will lose the 56$ that is "credited" as my account will disappear but heh, 56$ to get rid of them, not that bad.

When I canceled, I got the usual "but why?" barrage of questions.

I discovered they don't train them to figure out how to respond to this as a reason "I just don't want it".

Had to say it like 6 or 7 times, but it's clear there's no work around to someone just not wanting their service.

Never EVER tell them you are switching services.
Just have them give you the cancellation number and let them assume whatever they wish.
