Re: Cancelled Sympatico - Interesting Retention Script

The one thing that surprised me is that I thought there was an automatic 30 day period before the service was shut down. The CSR said that since I was switching to another ISP that they would waive this policy and any associated charges. My service is set to switch over in a couple of weeks so we'll see if this actually occurs.

As for TSI, I've been reading various threads about their service and it looks like you can reduce your monthly TSI bill by doing any of the following:

-Signing up with a GROUP of at least 5 people
-Getting a friend to sign up
-Signing a contract for a year service

I haven't found a description of these options on their website so I was wondering how one can take advantage of these discounts.

Thanks again

I personally enjoy dragging undereducated/unprepared Reps through Hell, I consider it an achievement when the second party curses my name and hangs up on me...

thats how I received Bells internal transfer #, the poor guy was desperately trying to pass me off to a different Dept (all of which I had spoken too previously) but couldn't find one that I couldn't immediately invalidate with a simple 'I've spoken with them and they said call you' or ' I've got that # what # should I call?' that he blurted out those 7 digits I've come to treasure.

Never Be afraid of raising the bar..QC

I'd advise that you don't mention the Bell employees stalking and spying on you. It might not go over well with the judge.

Having once been through the Small Claims process, I would advise you to bring a beverage to stay hydrated. You could be waiting for a while, and I know you were hospitalized due to dehydration.

What is this feature? Enforcement of 1 PPPoE session per DSLAM port/VPI&VCI/SC-VLAN.
The MLPPP workaround works even on a single pppoe connection. I use it, I have one DSL line, one modem, one pppoe connection. My modem actually establishes the connection. I have created a pppoe connection icon in Vista, and told it to allow MLPPP ... but I never tell it to connect. Haven't been throttled since I set it up - and I've reversed it to test and found that the throttle is as healthy as ever.

OMG.. I went through exactly the same thing about a year ago... Bell totally screwed up the billing and I don't think I ever got the 29.99 they promised to price match TS.

I spent hours on the phone trying to get it sorted out. Finally gave up, canceled and TS was the phone call I made.
Been a happy camper since!

When I cancelled 2 weeks ago, I was told that my Unlimited Usage Plan is no longer offer, and it's ILLEGAL for any company to offer such option to customer. I asked him if he's sure what he's talking. He said, it's the law now. I asked him about which law. He refused by saying he's told by his supervisor about this. "Then, alright, please cancel my sympatico". I wouldn't waste my time to play with him. It was a french CSR, I have difficult to understand outsourced/oversea english CSR.

In my chat session (which I recorded, natch) I explicitly confirmed:

1) that the rate quoted was for my current 5MB unlimited service;
2) that I remained month-to-month without a contract; and
3) that the credits would appear on my September bill

I also got a confirmation number.

We shall see if Bell screws this one up...

Sounds like Bell Canada has run out of liars, and has had to resort to hiring total idiots now.

As I said, this is a future thing to allow better per-subscriber allocation because when the control of the speed moves to the BRAS having a per-circuit or vlan throughput from the current sync profile method. And therefore many carriers are now either doing this or plan to do it.

I have also heard than in RFP's for several North American ILECS the ability to limit PPPoE sessions per port or VCI/VPI is required.

outer-vlan on a per-subscriber link (VDSL2/ADSL2+ + G.Bond or FTTP) and inner VLAN config
----------------------------------------------------------

--------------------------------------------------
xMbps ISP pipe w/1PPPoE concurrent session limit
--------------------------------------------------

--------------------------------------------------
xMbps IPTV pipe using DHCP option 82, IP's restricted to amount of STB's on account. VLAN'd.

------------------------------
Flexible Multicast broadcast sub-pipe, interleaved
------------------------------
Flexible Unicast burst/control/VoD sub-pipe, fastpath
------------------------------
--------------------------------------------------

--------------------------------------------------
SIP/IMS Voice stream pipe, High QoS, VLAN'd, private IP space
--------------------------------------------------

-----------------------------------------------------------

You wouldn't buy 100's of DPI devices to let them be "defeated" by flashing a $40 router. And this is a simple flick of the switch solution.

My latest Bell bill contained a notice that my 5-meg, unlimited (grandfathered) service would be going up to $47.95, so I went on their website's chat feature and told them I was cancelling. They immediately offered to roll back the increase. I said not good enough, and referred to Acanac's prices. They offered to drop to $40. That's still twice Acanac, I complained, and they came back at $35. "Still more than TekSavvy", I said. "OK, you can have it for $30".

Sorry, Rocky et. al. On a new signup, I'd be with you, but until Bell (inevitably) screws up again (or until you win at the CRTC, and Bell stops throttling you) the inconvience of changing means that I'll be with bell for a little longer.

One other thing of note. They offered to switch me to "Essentials," their 2 MB service, to save money, at the low price of $34.95 per month -- even though it's advertised at $32.95 on Bell's web site!
I hope you didn't end up accepting a deal because they will remove your unlimited plan. Doesn't matter what they promised.

Unfortunately, at the current state the DPI devices can't defeat MLPPP and no software updates on the horizon. They can limit to one login but that doesn't mean much since we can still defeat throttling.

EDIT: I should mention, MLPPP can be done on a single link.
