| T1 SmartJack
I live about 5 miles past the sticks to put it nicely. I tried to get DSL and the Local loop length came back as 60,000 feet. My company is paying partly for my internet connection. Therefore, as the only option I am getting a T1 circuit. I live in South Central Indiana and the ILEC is SBC/AT&T. Next week SBC is supposed to be at my house to install the smartjack. What type of smartjack does SBC/ATT usually install for residential T1's? At present the current voice line runs to just outside the garage where it hits a gray weather proof box and then runs inside and terminates on a 66 block, which is mounted on about 3/4" plywood, compliments of the previous owner. |

| reply to David It's more than an ethernet jack, it is an intelligent device , can be remotely tested, with loopback commands, pull stats etc...60Kft though they will most likley install adtran HDSL1 or 2 technology unless there is an RT or litespan in his area either way costly |

|
rolande Certifiable Premium,Mod join:2002-05-24 Powell, OH clubs: | No. That equipment cost should be built into the contract price. |

| reply to heimdm I honestly don't know I don't htink you pay for the equipment , but there could be cost for buildout that would be in your service contract so it should be spelled out up front.. but I wouls say if you have questions on that this is not the forum to answer that question i would call back to where you placed the order and get them give you those answers.. when i worked for AT&T I only remotely tested and provisioned them our customers usually had account managers, reps and Execs that had those answers |

Probably a Tellabs or Adtran single wallmount chassis. It could go either way... I've seen them put in to 2-slot Westell outdoor enclosures on residential installs on a couple of occasions. The circuit I had a few years back from work had the line card in an outdoor enclosure and extended in to a jack. -- Fiber Optics is the future of high-speed internet access. | reply to heimdm I retired doing that very thing 5 yrs ago. The 2 slot outdoor housing was the preferred thing to use in this situation. Possibly if you are home when its installed, the tech might put a smart jack inside on the plywood-maybe. Be aware that (5yrs ago) SBC/ATT charges separate from that housing to your computer. It was about $100hr plus a separate service charge. This was strictly time and material of the tech on site. You can DIY or hire another contractor to extend the circuit. |

| I am going to run the cabling from the smartjack to my router myself. I just finished installing a few j-hooks in the crawlsapce last week. This morning I got a call from an SBC engineer who is designing my circuit. Looks like they are going to try to nail me for physical buildout costs now. They say they should have a quote to me later this week. Our pedistol is within a stones throw of the house. However we are back about 2500 feet off the main road, which is littered with those white box t-1 repeaters. I am hoping it is under 5k, but we shall see.. and hope for the best. |

| Now the real fun has begun. ATT is saying I am so far out there, that they do not have T-1 service nearby. The street just up the road from me is where the lines pull back to, but ATT says that facilities is unable to provide T-1 service. That is where we stand... |

| ATT has kindly informed me that they need over $10,000 to build out a T-1 to my house. Additionally, they are stating that because it is a residence that justified the cost. That seems a bit crazy since a T1 just requires a conditioned copper pair.
If I gave ATT the 10k+, they would take the money and they go to the USF (Universal Service Fund) for money to build out this rural circuit.
UGH.. |

| reply to heimdm Time for Plan B yet? Can you get service closer in to a point within Line-of-Sight from your house? Anybody offering wireless?
Somebody else recommended these to me for a different purpose. They are far cheaper than $10,000 and might be worth experimenting with.

»www.solidsignal.com/prod_display···5-BT-GUY Whole kit, only $3500. No problems with line of sight then, and your HDTV signal would be excellent.
Sure beats the $10K buildout. Although that was to be expected, living in the boonies does not equal free high-cap buildout, no matter who you are. |

| Would you wish to reconsider the EVDO route? It looks like Alltel has no-cap mobile Internet with coverage in Indiana. Yes, Alltel is being acquired by Verizon, but at least you should have unlimited service for the length of your contract. |
