coming in fine here on the south side of chicago/oaklawn (60655).
anyone know why on the weather chan HD they do not provide locals on the 8's?
Weather Channel HD is a simulcast of the nationwide weather channel feed. No local on the 8's.

At all??? That's not right, you should be getting the SD pillar box-black sides version of the Local's until the newer HD compatible Intellistar is installed. Maybe it is being installed as we speak?

ya i flipped it on to see the local on the 8's. the normal voice said "now for your local on the 8s" but it was not showing it. they did not switch and pipe in the SD feed. maybe they will in the future. no biggie though.

Last I checked at my Dad's house with Service Electric Cable, Weather HD had National on the 8's.

Haven't watched Weather HD at his house in awhile though... but I would guess that it's still the same way. Graphics are good though. I'd almost rather watch National on the 8's in HD, than Local on the 8's in SD. If I really want local weather I'll pull up weather.com with my Zip Code and scroll through everything at my own leisure.

Well I'm in the South 'burbs and on Sunday they added Big Ten HD and that's it. I'm wondering where the other "new" channels are...oh and the channel numbers inside of Chicago are different than outside the City.

This is the reply I received from Comcast "Customer Care" when I inquired about the new HD channels coming to Plainfield.

"Thank you for contacting Comcast Cable.

The addition of these networks to the rest of Chicago land is tentative.
You will be notified if and when new programming is added.

Thank you for choosing Comcast.

Sincerely,

Marvin
Comcast Customer Care Specialist"

It looks like the waiting will continue for SPEED HD.

The Intellistar / weather star HD is not out yet any where.

They don't even have a National HD one. Dish and direct tv do have Intellistar SD set up to run in National mode.

How long does it usually take for suburbs to get new HD additions after the city gets it?

I called a comcast cs rep and she was clueless but she guessed it could take a month or so. I think she was just making it up.

It's not fair that comcast keeps us suburbs in the dark like this after getting our hopes up.

I've seen the HD national maps for LOT8's, just yesterday on DirecTV.

Found this link:
National "local on the 8's" HD from Nov. 2007:

On September 26, 2007, DirecTV launched a 24-hour simulcast of The Weather Channel in high definition. At this time, no programming was actually presented in high definition, except for a national "satellite" version of the Local On The 8s. On October 1, 2007, two new high definition programs, "Epic Conditions" and "Weather Ventures" premiered. A new high definition series, "When Weather Changed History" premiered on The Weather Channel on January 6, 2008.

Throughout the final months of 2007 to the early months of 2008, various cable companies had started to add The Weather Channel HD to their cable lineups, including the Boston, MA, Austin, TX, San Antonio, TX, and Baton Rouge, LA markets. [14] The Weather Channel in High Definition was added to DISH Network systems on May 13, 2008.

The very first live broadcast of The Weather Channel in high definition came on June 2, 2008 in a new studio facility built next to the current one. Dubbed the "Studio of the Future", it is powered by Cisco Systems technology that is entirely eco-friendly, echoing its commitment to the environment via the Forecast Earth initiative. The HD re-launch was completed in Mid August 2008. Currently, TWC's entire programming schedule is broadcast in HD with the exception of long-form programs It Could Happen Tomorrow and Full Force Nature.
The LOT8's for cable systems has not been upgraded to HD, yet. However, TWC:SD has ceased operation and TWC is only broadcast in 1080i 16x9. The SD digital and analog channels are now donconverted by the operator instead of the broadcaster (TWC). Maybe this is why the LOT8's on HD stations are getting the national HD map.

(BTW, Dish is different than DirecTV with TWC. Dish actually has local on the 8's similar (but more regional) to cable systems.)

Gratz on the HD's Chicago!

Man, comcast is brutal. Nothing here in Naperville. How could comcast keep us in the dark like this??

They owe us.

We should be giving the same channels as Chicago, or at least tell us how long we have to wait. Ahhhh, I got my hopes up, and every day I looks for signs. I might have to just switch to DirecTV.
