dslx_gm : I have never been a huge fan of the distance checker here on BBR. Although it will give you an estimate it is typically not extremely accurate. They are tracking the physical distance of your location to the CO not the actual path that the phone line travels since it isn't a straight path from your house to the CO.

If you send me a PM with your DSL Extreme account information I would be happy to take a look at your current line readings for you.

Thanks
--
George
General Manager
DSL Extreme
Will work for reviews. ;)

JamesMJ2 : I checked again, I believe that distance to be accurate because it shows my area code and first three as being carried on that CO. Unfortunately it also listed the CO as carrying A LOT of numbers. Which is maybe why I am getting half the speed I am paying for...

qworster : The closest CO might not be yours! Here in Los Angeles, my closest CO is on Vermont Ave (LSANCA12). It is about 1/2 driving mile from my house. However, my CO is one driving mile away in the opposite direction on Gower Street (HLWDCA01).

In my case my CO is twice as far away as the closest one.
Ironically the Vermont Ave CO also offers U-Verse service, while mine does not (yet).

JamesMJ2 : There are several in the San Jose area and they are owned/operated by various carriers. Was hoping to get the choices narrowed down.

My bad, I forgot we now have a dial tone/phone number. I believe I correctly ID'ed the CO, thanks for the link. 1.1 miles to office! AWESOME!

JamesMJ2 : Just signed up for 3000/512 plan and I forgot to ask the CS rep. what the distance to my CO is. I guess its a moot point now, seeing as I already took the contract, but I am still curious. I live in downtown San Jose, My cross streets are 2nd and Empire. Thanks.
