I care because it offers diversity of services and competition. I welcome AT&T to bring U-Verse to my area, if for nothing more than to keep the cableco and sat tv providers in check.
I fail to understand why everyone is so negative towards additional choice. |

| quote: Why do we care where U-Verse hits? It is a lame, cheap interpretation of FTTH,FIOS,FTTP!
I care because U-verse is literally cheap. For the next 6 months I'm going to be paying about half what I paid Time Warner for TV service, and get a LOT more for it.

I'm not sure it's negativity toward the choice, but rather disappointment and frustration in AT&T's choice to deliver a mediocre product that's in many ways inferior to existing products, instead of a cutting-edge one.
With the economy tanking and people in search of ways to lower their bills, the strategy might work out for AT&T. |

| But the beauty of T's option is that you have additional choices. If you don't like them, move on. I also don't really see the product as mediocre or inferior to "existing" products. T is still upgrading the plant and tweaking the system. Service offerings will only continue to get better....like almost every other provider. And as I've said before, this incremental build-out is a phased approach towards eventually running FTTH. Steady investment versus dumping all of your eggs in a basket and hoping the ROI eventually shows up like VZ. |
