Re: Not a shocker

I would love an iPhone--but I like to be able to actually *use* my phone. AT&T calls drop, misroute and go silent. The phone is not enough to ever lure me back to the hell that was Cingular/AT&T.
Keep preachin' it!

A little over 3 years ago I moved to New Jersey. Before the move, I made an apartment hunting trip with a friend; I had Cingular and he had Verizon. I would have a full strength signal but when I tried to make calls, it would just hang for about 15-20 seconds -- then, half the time the phone would just give up and go back to the main menu, the other half the time it would finally push through and make the call. All the while I had, according to the phone, a perfectly strong signal. According to the CSR (HA!) my phone was having to communicate with a server in Texas (where my account was based) and that's what was taking so long -- maybe Cingular was still using carrier pigeons?

Prior to that... I would drive pretty frequently between Texas and Georgia/Southeast. The game was always 'wonder if anyone has called me?' I would be driving down Interstate 20 with full strength signal... and get an indication that I suddently had a voicemail that was about 15 seconds old. Huh, my phone never rang??? I could get text message, voicemails, etc all day... but phone calls... oh, you actually wanted to use your phone for phone calls?!?!?!

I have plenty of other Cingular hell stories, but I'll spare everyone.
