Just don't go wild and download movies and other stuff off of p2p and you should be fine. In my area it's either EVDO or dial-up and I'm not going back to dial-up. I noticed a steady increase in DNS server errors, gateway errors, remote server errors, etc. during August when I would be just browsing the web. I also noticed SSL connections started to take forever to load up. They cut my speed in half, blamed me for using too much (which never happened the previous 11 months), and then informed me about no more Midnight Madness without notifying me in advance and offered no recourse for being a good customer.
firefly : re: bamaboy70

Your connection looks like what mine used to be with Skyway up until August 15. Then overnight my connection was cut in half and remained there. Over the course of the past year, my connection was never throttled. I was very careful to download during Midnight Madness. Then after August 15 when I called to complain that something was wrong, that's when they informed me about no more Midnight Madness and stated that I had downloaded over 3.5GB! and was being throttled. I did not download 3.5GB and why after their network went down did my connection all of a sudden get slashed in half for the first time in a year? They didn't even suggest resetting my account or anything. So given how they had quietly done away with Midnight Madness without notification and then throttled my connection alot I decided to get a new ISP.
firefly : Even though I just canceled my Skyway account about a week ago, when I called about my service sucking, they never mentioned anything about a new satellite. I called several times, and no one mentioned this, just that they were working on their network and it would be fixed in a little bit (yeah, right!). Their network went into the toilet the weekend of August 15 and never came back out, at least when I used to have it. I doubt very much that Skyway will email customers about any new satellite since they killed Midnight Madness without emailing about that important service change.

I had Skyway for a year, worked great until the weekend of August 15. They've screwed up their network. Since they removed the Midnight Madness time zone, I believe Skyway is having a serious bandwidth issue. Around two years ago or so, Skyway got into trouble by not paying it's satellite uplink provider and left alot of users stuck on dial-up for months. I'm starting to think that they've F'ed Up again. I noticed SSL connections were taking a heck of alot longer than normal to connect as well. My guess is that they've oversold their bandwidth and now are having to scramble to find a way to support all of the additional users, such as canceling Midnight Madness, increasing using heavy traffic shaping, and numerous DNS and other server errors along with more downtime causing users to use the dial-up option more.

Seriously, if there was a new satellite being prepared and their network was going to go through a major change, why didn't Skyway email, call, or send a letter ahead of time to all of it's customers warning them of possible downtimes in the near future. Also, why don't they tell customers calling in that they're switching satellites over or doing major network upgrades? They didn't tell me anything. And I noticed that you used to be able to call Skyway and get through to someone very quickly, but now the phone is busy 90% of the time. People calling in complaining? Company going out of business?

IMHO Skyway is in major trouble. They are now going to heavily throttle users and took away the free download time.

re: nowhatimsaying....that has to be the longest run-on sentence I've ever seen. He was able to tell when I locked on the satellite. At the moment, I have a Canadian IP address, and some secure sights won't allow me in. And I know your pain, because the day I finally was able to get in, I too was at dial up speed. I am supposed to call back and give them input on my speeds, but like you, have a hard time with the busy signals. If i find out more, I'll let you know.

bamaboy70 : Skyway will be switching over to a new satellite in a few weeks. I am testing it right now. For the first time since I have had Skyway, I am receiving speeds that I am paying for. I just pray that when everyone is moved, that it can still keep up with the load. Tests at Toast.net average 805KB on just about every test, using a 755k file.

Support said everyone will receive a email noting the changeover, but would not give a specific date. So hang in there, better speeds may be coming soon!
