Re: Next Up SCREW THAT! I'd miss my flight instead of pulling them out, which is ridiculous and amounts to assault in my eyes. I'd be suing my ass off.
While this is something that makes me insanely glad I or any of my flight worthy relatives or friends don't have any piercings, I don't think it was unreasonable to ask to be taken aside and flash a female guard instead.
That'd have taken like 2 seconds and been painless.
All things aside, I bet she'll either never fly again or never get piercings anywhere.
Poor woman. |

 | I would like to know what they would do if I set some alarms off. I have a metal stent in my heart. I guess they bring in a heart surgeon to open my chest up to see if I have a bomb inside. -- Caddy |

I have a metal plate and screws in my wrist and elbow from a skiing accident. And I have a document showing that. They still pull me aside and wave the wand over it. But no one has denied me access to the plane. -- My BLOG .. .. Internet News .. .. My Web Page Ask yourself one question: 'Do I feel lucky?' Well, do ya punk? |

But no one has denied me access to the plane. Yes I got a card that I carry with me. I have not set any alarms at the airport yet. Maybe they needed to check the women's nipple ring but remove it no. All the TSA had to do is let a female take a look. -- Caddy |

I guess they bring in a heart surgeon to open my chest up to see if I have a bomb inside. You should have an MD's note with you that states this. It's commonplace for people with current or ongoing medication conditions or therapies that would be questioned by the TSA to have documentation from a doctor or pharmacy documentation the patient's condition, or the patient's need for carrying supplies with them onboard, such as a medication pump, syringes, etc. -- "Honesty may be the best policy, but it's important to remember that apparently, by elimination, dishonesty is the second-best policy." - George Carlin

It's usually ferrous material that sets them off (e.g. iron-containing materials). I've got a titanium watch that's never set it off. Nickel and some other metals (such as aluminum and copper if memory serves) usually don't set them off either.
If you're fortunate enough to have a titanium implant such as hip or knee, you probably won't have to worry about it. Stainless is usually a different story.
Then of course there's the quantity of the metal involved even if it is ferrous. Of course carrying the card isn't a bad idea. I'd hate to have TSA crack open my chest because they wouldn't take me at my word. -- Tradition: Just because you've always done it that way doesn't mean it's not incredibly stupid. --despair.com |
