Re: Avg says .bin missing when updating

I think that was the issue I have had for 2 days now - I went ahead and installed another av since AVG 7.5 was going to disappear eventually.

Well, that's all well and good, but I can't figure out how to make a directory to my desktop???? Think I'll just wait until AVG resolves the problem, unless someone can explain to me how to do it.

Use Windows Explorer and click on the FOLDER button. Highlight Desktop and you should see all of the files/folders in the right pane that are on your desktop.

File --> New --> Folder then it will have you name the folder.

In this case folder = directory.

Well duh!! I kinda thought he meant make a "folder", not a directory! And you can just right click on the desktop to make a folder.

It means put the 2 files you downloaded into a new folder on your desktop, name that folder AVG.
Click tools from menu on AVG interface, see where it says download from directory, click that, you will see a list from desktop, double click the AVG folder in that list, update and you are done.

If I can do it, a 3 month old baby can do it.

Yes, and I'm no baby, but I am a babe and pretty computer savy - It worked. Yippie!! To me a folder and a directory are 2 different things; had he said folder I would have been finished 40 minutes ago. But thanks for info; you still knew what you were talking about. Was it Naylar, something like that - not dissing you; i'm sure you meant folder......tee hee!

Folder is the MS way of saying directory. I would rather say directory as calling it a folder confuses most people it seems to me.

but my avg 8.0 is already been delete , so have to install it than do the next step for the bin files? is it?

Really? Well, I'm not a geek, but I've never heard them called directories before; well I've heard of directories but didn't think they were one and the same with folders. When you go to make a new one, it doesn't say new "directory", says new "folder". Don't most people use a windows operating system?

Directories were used for many, many years before MS came along with Win95 or 98 and MS decided to call them folders. I went to college in '93 and in the basic computing classes they were still called directories.
