TSA & CPAP's

I'm fine with taking my laptop out, whatever. What bugs me is that I have to remove my CPAP, which is packed in two parts (in two small padded bags) inside a larger carrying case. Each time I go through security, I have to pull out the two main parts, put them in their own bin (I'm up to 3 bins now: laptop, shoes & belt and CPAP) through the xray machine the TSA guys rub their little swab over it and put the swab in the explosives detector. Did they get a memo saying that people were going to disguise a bomb as a CPAP? Why isn't an in-bag x-ray good enough? Why does it have to be swabbed every time (TSA guy told me it was policy to swab CPAP's every time. I hate lugging it with me, but damn it makes a world of difference in my sleep.
