anon : Ok. I finally get it. I must have misread something on a web page that lead me to believe you could get software to do the same thing a hardware tuner could. Guess not. So I did some searching on tuners and found a couple Hauppauges on sale at Circuit City. Checked Hauppauge's web site for specs and found something very interesting. According to their site the model #1178 is being repackaged as the new #1199. New box. Same stuff inside. I bought the last #1178 for 29.99. The #1199 goes for 99.99.

anon : Thanks to darcilicious. This is pretty much what I thought. I'll buy another TV before I buy a PC tuner. I have TVU installed and it is reasonable. I get Scifi, Spike, Nick etc. I guess these channels are time delayed from the TVU broadcaster but represent what the original broadcaster sent at that time???

I thought there would be a similar solution to receiving my local Boston stations so I could see the Patriots kick ass again this year(please exclude this preseason). I need football.

darcilicious : Unless I've totally missed something (and I'm not sure I haven't ;-) ) TitanTV is a TV guide and remote recording *setup* solution only. It assumes you have a TV tuner in your computer and connect that to your cable (or over-the-air) service -- there are no "software TV tuners" that I'm aware of...

However there are number of USB HD TV tuners that will get your local analog/digital stations, connect to your cable service (maybe), and possibly allow you to record (e.g. AverMedia Volar Max USB tuner, »How does the olympics look on your hdtv?)

Another one that looked interesting: »www.digitalconnection.com/produc···7usb.asp

Anyhow, none of these solutions are TV over IP -- just guide and remote recording setup over IP to your PC's tuner :)

anon : Just to let people know where I am at. I have done a lot of google searching on this subject and did find Titan TV. They seem to offer the same exact channel list I have with Comcast. Input your zip code and the list is generated. They have a list of compatible hardware and software which is where I'm having trouble. I assumed I could find a software only solution to interpreting the signal and displaying the various channels. Haven't found that yet. Everything I have looked at so far requires a tv tuner card. Does anyone know if a software only tv tuner exists. All comments are welcomed.
