Re: Next up... Not too recently @ Orlando International, I do remember one "incident" where they'd locked down a whole gate of flights for about two hours and wanted to arrest this guy because he had an Apple TiBook (Titanium-based powerbook), thinking that it was some kind of nuclear device. It finally took some officer to show up and point out that the notebook's shell was made with titanium, and not of any danger to anyone.
Thousands of people held up for hours, half a dozen flights cancelled (more of them delayed) and one guy about to have a criminal record because some TSA guy too stupid to work anywhere else didn't know that notebooks used to be made with that kind of material back then. And of course the FAA just said it was taking "necessary precautions to protect its passengers."
Why else do you think Apple hasn't been doing Titanium-based notebooks anymore? It isn't because aluminum looks/feels all that much better. |
|
 | Yes, that does suck for the guy, however my point is, the incompetent worker didn't know about the titanium, so they did question it. This is not deeming someone a terrorist, nor does it come close to your pound me in the ass max security prison. I am not saying it is a picnic to go through airport security, but I think you should check your facts before spilling them out as truths. To my knowledge, the only people deemed as terrorist from airline incidents are truly terrorists.
Lets recap as to why some of the rules are in place:
Shoes: Idiot was trying to blow up a plane with explosives in his shoes.
Sharp objects: Thats pretty obvious - and most people agree with this. Even though some don't know, you can carry small scissors, screwdrivers (under 7"), etc...
Liquids over 3oz - England incident to use liquid explosives.
Contrary to your belief, the rules are there for the passenger's safety. |

undestand the tree First off, the FAA does not do anything but envoke rules on behalf of the flying public, some stupid I'll give you that. The FAA does nothing with TSA except for maybe some training located in OKC.
The Federal Aviation Administration is an agency of the Department of Transportation, created in 1958 by the Federal Aviation Act.
TSA is a Department of Homeland Security, as you may or may not know DHS was created November 25 2002.
But don't take my word for it do your own homework, here are some quick links to get you started:

Well I guess it is lucky that the shoe bomber didn't try to light his underwear on fire then, eh?
I can't believe you are actually defending TSA, probably the worst run government agency we have ever seen.
Btw, what is to stop 4 people from smuggling 3 oz. of liquid explosive each on the plane and then combining it?
The 3 oz. liquid restriction is so stupid and useless. -- "Speak for yourself "Chadmaster" - lesopp |

One person decides to blow up a plane with explosives in his shoes, one 'plot' that was proven unfeasible, to use liquid explosives, and EVERYONE has to pay?
Come on. If you can't see that it is the administration's way of making you be afraid, than you are blind.
I can, however agree with large pointy things.
Personally, I think it would be interesting to watch the airport gates, if everyone going onto a plane, had to go on in the raw. It sure would be a good reason to have the airlines not charge customers those stupid baggage charges.

Come on... Yeah, I am from NY. I also read the news... ALL the news. I do know that Bush was warned about an attack several times before it happened. The administration KNEW that there was an attack coming, and did NOTHING! -- "Understanding is a three-edged sword." |

 | Please provide proof that our gov't knew of this particular attack and then show that they did "nothing". If your proof of nothing, is that the attack happened, that does not suffice. |

check »tinyurl.com/6gnuxb to see that Bush was, in fact, warned of the oncoming attack. For crying out loud, it's general knowledge, unless your only source of news is Fox.
No, they didn't do nothing, they let it happen on purpose, so that they could drive up the price of oil, and take back Iraq's oil for their corporate contributors. Corporations that were driven out while Hussein was in power. Want proof, just google it, and go to the reliable sources, NOT the US media, but reliable foreign media, because the US mainstream media has been working part and parcel, in cahoots with this administration.

Since heart disease and traffic accidents are far and away more dangerous to you--and every other American--than terrorism, is there some particular reason you're not screaming to expand the FDA's power to include deciding at-will how much red meat Americans can eat?
There are two reasons, actualy, and they both have to do with fundamental human behavior. One is our poor ability to guage relative risk. The other is our innate desire to have an enemy to hate. These are biological imperatives.
Of course, one of the most important things we can do as a species is use another of our fundamental human attributes--the ability to reason--to override our instincts.
So, the next time sitting around having a couple beers with your buddies, talking about America and filled with emotion and a sense of unity over sharing a common enemy, think about this: You're never going to meet a terrorist, but that gut of yours is going to kill you. |
|
1 edit | By that same rationale - we should just dismantle our armed forces, since I am more likely to die from eating red meat than a bomb dropped on my head from another nation.
I am not sure what your argument is here? Lets not even worry about security checks at airports??? Do you think this is what most Americans want? If you do, you are sadly lost in this DSLR world. Wow - you are drinking some of the kool-aid. |
