| [modem/router] Actiontec GT704 troubles
Hi, I recall some threads a while ago about issues with the GT704, here is some more insight.
I have a new GT704 with Verizon colors. Firmware is 3.20.3.3.5.0.9.2.10
The problem I am having is that the LAN side of this modem seems to lock up on me randomly.
I was using it with no issues then got "page can not be displayed" errors on internet connections. When I attempted to connect to the modem at 192.168.3.1 ( that is an address I gave it), I received the same "page can not be displayed" errors.
Tried ipconfig /release (worked) but ipconfig /renew timed out. The lease time was shown as still having 12 hours on it before the ipconfig commands.
With out doing any thing on my side, the connection started to work again in about 2 minutes or so.
There was a wireless signal the whole time.
I have connection monitoring turned on on this connection and am not seeing any no connection spikes. I realize that this test only pings every 15-20 minutes so it may not catch the lockup if it is on the wan side also. The "Internet" light stays green and the "connection" time in the modem does not reset when this happens.
This has happened at least 3 times in the past 24 hours.
Any one else seeing this type of issue? Any solution?
Thanks, Tim
PS: I tried to post this as a new reply to an older thread but the DSLR system gave me a warning. I have not seen the other post appear, so started a new thread. Sorry if it ends up being a duplicate! -- The difference between genius and stupidity is that genius has its limits. |

1 edit | Hi,
While i should be last to comment here as I do not know too much your issue. Possible thoughts are: I have seen this sort of issue with another router brand. While using Vista it simply needed a hard reset (every few times). Another thing your router maybe starting to fail on the local side or software bug. If it is breaking locally the breakouts may increase on your WAN. At which point it may just go as I seen happen before. |

| I have not seen this with a Westell 6100 or a netgear modem/router combo on this connection. It seems specific to the Verizon Actiontec GT704 device.

| If this is like the Actiontec MI424-WR the issue is with the NAT Table in the router becoming full due to the samll size (1 KB) on the MI424-WR. To find out check the logs and see if you have any errors relating to NAT Table full unable to resolve IP. with the MI424-WR you can do one of 2 things. 1) Wait 3-5 minutes and the table will flush itself and you'll start working again
2) Reboot theGT704
Woth the MI424-WR neither ACtiontec or Verizon admit to any issues while most all who have the router have experienced it. |

| Thanks for the tip on the NAT table. Unfortunately neither solution works for me as I use a VoIP phone on this connection. Kind of hard to have a real time conservation with the 704 acting like this.
The 6100 + WRT54GL is a better solution.
