Well, I'm a 'Usenetserver' user who pays $15 a month for their 'services' and my once 467k/s connection is now down to 60k/s.
I can start it up at anytime of the day and within seconds it immediately drops down. A buddy from work also has an account (we swap stuff - twice the D/L that way , anyways I call him as its happening and his account is rock solid. So its not Usenet... its BELL. Line is CLEAN as a whistle.
So are they starting to throttle individuals who still have unlimited accounts? If so, time to jump ship. |

 Not constant |
I've been noticing a few problems with RS too. Using my DD-WRT's bandwidth monitoring page and a Rapidshare premium account.
The line on the left side is a download through Rapidshare premium. On the right is a download of Ubuntu from a server in Sweden. |

@bell.ca | Take another look at your picture. There is no line at the left or right. Both lines are on top of each other. |

| reply to ultrasroma First off, remember that it's not one gigantic server that throttles every user individually. Sandvine affects people in different locations differently, so saying that "I don't have that problem" doesn't necessarily mean that bell isn't doing it - I'm sure they have some scripting available to manage more than p2p traffic if need be.
Secondly, I haven't experienced the free rapidshare capping that other people are saying - in fact I have in the past got 400-500k/s download on rapidshare, but during peak times, it went down to around 100k/s - not bad, not great. So really, I'm not sure what some people are talking about with their 50k/s throttling according to rapidshare's website or whatever.
I wouldn't put it past bell though to throttle other types of downloading. I can only download from youtube at 30k/s ... co-incidence? Maybe.. but I think not. |

| reply to ultrasroma Oh one more thing.. Deadpool - people with Bell (or any DSL that goes through bell) isn't necessarily capped at 30k/s. I was capped at 45k/s for the longest time, now I"ve been capped to 20k/s. It's different for each person's location and population density, relative to the bandwidth available (bell is still full of crap and will collapse. I swear it's because they gave away so many free months of service.) |

| this is a sad state of affairs. when people all over the world are building infrastructure that can handle more exchange of information bell is playing tricks on its users to squeeze out a few millions of dollars of cashflow when it's involved in an ill conceived LBO that will raise its debt payments through the roof. why are they going the private route? no one really knows, they were just fine as a public corporation from a financial standpoint... it's utter nonsense to see a company become so confrontational with its own customers though....
and Deadpool u seem like a smart man yet you so stubbornly keep trying to defend all that bell is doing. listen man the moment some big head honcho way up the food chain decides that your dept. needs to be culled you'll be offloaded in no time. all your loyalty and all the hours you clock don't matter. heck even some guys on bay street who were making more than half a mil working over 100 hours a week were let go just like that. and now they're desperately trying to find a job that'll pay for their bills.

there can be amny reasons why you were getting higher speeds then the "norm".
Also DPI doesn't always work correctly as it has been proven in the past. |

take a breather and realize that this company has long lost its rudder. I don't defend - I simply understand how big business works, as do others on this forum. Whether I agree with it or not is not relevant.
And whether I were to lose my job or not wouldn't change my understanding that every big business has one goal: profits. -- Disclaimer: If I express an opinion, it is my own opinion, not that of Bell or its related companies. |

Luckily some big business have other goals such as providing better service than the competition. Competing by meeting their customers needs. Always striving to improve. Being efficient. Treating customers like partners, building symbiotic relationships with them. |

No big business I know does all of those things successfully. -- Disclaimer: If I express an opinion, it is my own opinion, not that of Bell or its related companies. |
