| [ Mobility] Cancelling text messaging
A friend of mine called Bell to cancel/block incoming text messages to avoid paying the new fee and was told they can only block your text messages if they also block your voicemail. This sounds like BS to me but she doesn't really know much about this kind of stuff and just took their word for it. I've found posts, etc. on various website with people saying they cancelled text messages and there is no reference to also having to block voicemail. So was the csr full of BS or what? |

| reply to biznatch11 It is not entirely bullshit but read on.
The text messages are used to send the voice mail notification to your phone telling it that there are voice mails waiting in your mailbox and how many there are.
The bullshit part is that they cant distinguish and let those voice mail notifications pass while blocking the other text messages .... the voice mail notifications are created within Bell voice mail servers ... so there must be a way for them to flag them and let them pass through the text messaging servers .... basically they are too lazy to figure out how to do it so they tell you no more "voice mail for you".
Also they are using it as a dissuasive argument for you not to cancel your text messaging. Another Bell trademarked how-to-bettER-serve the customer move there.
Charging for incoming text messages and not figuring out how to block them without disabling the voice mail part. Does it seem like a well thought out plan to you ?
This could be argued as a reason to not let the text messaging charge plan go ahead since blocking it will disable voice mail service to opt-out customers. |

| reply to biznatch11 Bell Mobility has a feature called "No Answer Transfer", I've had it for years.
When a call comes in on the cell phone, the phone rings a preset number of times which is controlled by the cell phone owner and when not answered will transfer the call to another number.
My cell will ring 4 times and then transfer to my land line. I have bell call answer on my land line for all calls.
Call and block your text messages and then who cares if your voice messages are blocked on your cell phone. |

| reply to biznatch11 That's sad! Telus can block your text messages if you don't want them yet you still get a notification for new voice mail. At least I do.. I can't believe how many spam text messages I use to get some days.. |

| Telus actually has a spam filter for your text messaging and calls. You may need to be persistent to get it activated or downright tell 'em you going to cancel account if they don't apply it. And no notification in voicemail if it was spam -- Please engage eyeballs and retain functional brain before operating fingers. |

| reply to biznatch11 This is why when I was out shopping for a prepaid cellphone last week I told bell to shove it. The people in the Bell store couldn't imagine what was so wrong with paying for incoming spam text messages. Needless to say I went over to the Telus store and got a nice prepaid cellphone with text messaging disabled AND better rates.
Really I hope someone at bell management is reading all these posts. They need a good wake up call before the new cellphone companies show up on the block. |
