Re: [General] Info Please!

I run a PAP2T and my router is not pingable, there are configuration options to keep the link to the SIP server open.

From my experience.... no.

But it does help from a service provider troubleshooting perspective

Being pingable doesn't matter. You would however want to set the NAT options on your adapter (NAT mapping and NAT keep-alive) to on if such options are available.

Assuming you are behind a NAT router. (99% of residential users are)

I did not see NAT in my settings on my ZyXEL X-550 XtremeMIMO Wireless Router

Re: [General] Info Please!

If your router is assigning your computer an IP address, you are behind a NAT router. (99% of routers are by default)

Re: [General] Info Please!

NAT is usually a non-routable IP range Like 192.168.0.1 different from what the router sees. »en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Private_network

So if your network uses internal addresses, then NAT uses your router's real world IP to talk on the web. (Sorry if this is already obvious!)

My point is a router refers to it as WAN(Routable) and LAN(Unroutable), but rarely calls it NAT.
