dishrich : Well since we were Insight before the first of this year, they charged the same thing here f/DVR. What you have to consider is, that you are really paying $15 for a DVR box & service, & getting HD prog along for the ride. But also, stop & consider the fact that if you buy a Tivo box (any kind) that there IS a monthly charge of $13 (from Tivo) to make their box work as well, so you really aren't going to save a lot. (of course you have the upfront cost of the Tivo box itself to factor in there) There are no other (Insight) cable compatible DVR's out there, either.

You could also look at a media center computer, but I don't think you really are looking for something like that.

Your only other choice would be to look at DBS, but both services charge $6/month for DVR service as well. (although DISH charges it on EVERY DVR in your house, if you have more than one, of course, while DirecTV only charges it once per household)

JGZinv : I'm about to ger hooked up for service coming the middle of the week, and I'm trying to figure out an equipment question.

Basically I've got 3 TVs, for the sake of conversation let's
say they don't support HDTV and I'm not interested in getting HDTV service. The only way Insight offers a DVR (which we do want the functionality of) is with a HDTV pack at $15 additional a month.

What I'm trying to figure out is if there's a series of 3rd party DVR that would work as well or better than what Insight would provide - since I have no interest in the HD. From what I read here TiVo HD's seem to have a cable card issue. I'm not sure on what the subscription costs are on a 3rd party DVR either, but that's something I'll be looking into.

Trying to see if it's worth it to just go with a single Insight DVR and 2 standard receivers - or buy a 3rd party DVR, skip the adding $15 a month, and get 3 standard receivers.

Any suggestions?
