| reply to SuperNet33 Re: [iPhone] 2.0.2 firmware is out, Please post outcome
I had to Restore after 2.0.1 and again with 2.0.2. Unfortunately, this time the phone went into a Restore loop. With a little help from Google, I was able to recover. Everything is stable now. I wasn't having a problem with 3G signal strength or dropped calls before so I can't really comment on what's been fixed. |

| reply to SuperNet33 I think the main problem with this new firmware is that it is not even a minor version change, it is a minor-minor version change. From 2.0.1 to 2.0.2 What we want is 3.0, or at least a 2.2
(stupid comment but with such little info from apple what else can you go on?) |

| Not iPhone related, but there are real problems here with the Touch as well. I thought perhaps I was in some purgatory of bad Touch, bad luck, whatever. Well, I went to Corporate Support straight to top-tier engineers to two Touches and both can't maintain a WiFi connection testing with three different access points.
Then I run into a guy on a forum who has been through three with the same problem!
Man ... this is like deja vu all over again. I'm ready to fold my cards and request a credit or refund. Between this, MMe and the hell I went through getting my Macbook to maintain Wifi and other problems .... whew.
Hope people with phone problems find relief, but I'm not expecting anything at this point. -- |

One thing at a time. Small steps yadda yadda. 2.1 is supposed to drop in September, and if you look at the calendar, that's about 10 days away. September, that is. Not the release. Knowing Apple, if they don't delay 2.1, they will probably publish it at 11:59PM on September 30th. |

At the risk of starting a flame war, I can just imagine what would happen if Microsoft put out a Windas update with zero information on what was in the update. I know they can be brief at best but at least you have some idea. If Apple would at least offer some information on what was in the updates, all this speculation would not even exist. We wouldn't have to tiptoe around wondering if we should go for it or leave it alone (does Steve get a kick out of this shit or something?). I can only imagine that the 'bug fixes' were minor. I have to believe that Apple would announce something if they really fixed some of the significant problems being reported.

Apple is possibly the most secretive company on this planet. It's really not surprising that they're so mum on release notes. It's frustrating, no shit, but I don't see it changing any time soon.
Since they rarely admit to making mistakes, they don't have to spell out what was fixed in the latest releases of their software. If they did, they would implicitly admit to having made mistakes, which is something they don't seem too fond of.
Arrogant? Absolutely.
EDIT WTF.. nevermind. At first it showed a double-post, then it only showed my message saying I posted a double-post. Weirdness. |

I noticed your in Brooklyn as am I and I would assume we should have full 3G coverage. I'm on an overseas network right now, in sydney. My 3g shows as either 1 bar, or vanishes and drops back to a square with an empty circle inside it, at which point it shows full bars..
I don't have another 3g phone to prove that 1 bar is unacceptable in this area but when traveling around I notice it is a crapshoot as to whether I see 3g in a box or not. My cellphone carrier has a 3g coverage map for the city and it is well covered.
I briefly ran the stats from our iphone speed test and those that *claimed* they are on 3g when they ran the test parse out like this for download speed. Each x is 20 results. The labels are "up to" that speed. So the first is 0-50kbit.
Looks like 650kbit is the most likely result - but there is a large skew to slower speeds.

| reply to atuarre said by atuarre :Anyone having GPS issues after applying the update? So far, yes. It is taking the phone a LOT longer to find me...
Where I am in the middle of town, it usually dials in on me in a matter of seconds. After update applied...minutes.
Unrelated to the GPS issue, but it took an extrodinary amount of time to back up my phone. About 3 hours to be somewhat precise. And my 16GB phone is only about 70% full...
But noticed improvements, at least on my end, is WiFi signal loss. Before, every once in a while, especially while I am on a call, 'net will totally give out. It will start off at full signal, like it should, then after about a page or two loading, signal drops to nothing, and drops the connection entirely. Only way to bring the net back was to restart the phone entirely.
Haven't had this issue occur yet since this update...
So far though, that has been the only complaint I have had regarding my iPhone, and its fixed now! |

| Stupid YouTube. I uploaded straight through iMovie, but since my Youtube account is linked directly to my Google account, I don't really have a dedicated Youtube username/password. That's what may have confused iMovie and so even though I uploaded it, it never seems to have arrived.
Anyway.. I haven't been outside since I installed 2.0.2 so I can't confirm the GPS problems. I'll test it later today and report back. |

| reply to SuperNet33 Apple's sparse release notes for updates is really starting to annoy the hell out of me. Companies like Microsoft can get it right, and there's no (good) reason for Apple to be secretive about this.

| reply to SuperNet33 Yeah, noticed Contacts being faster. No GPS problems in my test in NYC on the way to work this morning. The big issue that I seem to have now is that I can barely ever bring up a web page successfully. Went to the Giant game last night and in a crowded stadium, NOTHING. On the way home, checked GMail from the web and loaded instantaneously. This morning, in NYC again NOTHING. Looks like I am dead in any fairly dense cell phone area.... -- -BKuhl

| reply to SuperNet33 The phone seems slower to me now. When checking Yahoo mail, I got the spinning circle stating "Connecting" for about 8 minutes, then I just turned it off. Tried again, and deleted some old emails. The homescreen still showed a new email, turns out the ones I sent to the trash were back. |
