dsldude08 : Keep us updated and if you can post your modem transceiver stats for us. The Westell modems seem to be sensitive to lightning, but only in certain areas. Some outside equipment may be the reason also, but since we've had another customer try a different modem and he received better results, a different modem may work also. Although currently Westell is all CenturyTel has to offer in the meantime. Thanks!

cupcrazy : I've had the same issues,my connection is dropping, losing sync.It was happening about seven or eight times a day.A couple weeks ago a tech came and took a bridge he called it off my line.Cut the number in half.

Another tech run a cat 5 wire from outside the house straight to the modem. He he was suppose to charge me,but he did it for free.

The tech came back today and traced my line and couldn't find anything causing it to loss sync,or drop connection.I get this error like you.

SUN AUG 17 17:02:31 2008
PPP DISCONNECTED on VPI 8 VCI 35 : PPP link layer failure

He said he was showing a slight kickback in my line from his meter, not sure what that means. He is going to call me back tomorrow,if I have any outage tonight he's going to put in a order to change my port at the local hub.

He said he's not 100% sure whats cause my issue, but the tech gave me his cell phone number and said he will fix it,but asked me to be understanding, because it might take him a week or so to find the issue.

My sync also goes out when it lightning flashes.I've read other threads about that issue, where people believe its the westell.Thing is I had centurytel for 2 1/2 years but I moved to a new location in February,my connection has never been right here.At the old location it NEVER went out in two years, not once.We had some BAD STORMS over that time fame, but never did it loss sync until I moved.

It has to be a line problem causing my issues.Like you I'am sick of dealing with my connection cutting out,but I believe this tech is going to get it resolved for me.

[mod note - moved out of another person's troubleshooting thread. Please don't begin your topic in another's thread - start your own instead. Thanks! Title edited to better reflect the content]
