azzonie : I would bridge the Actiontech and set the router up to log-in PPPOE. You will get the best performance this way and avoid any potential NAT problems. I have have 3 DSL lines setup like this for years.

bleagh : Here is how I setup my Actontec M1000 for use with my Linksys WRT54GS.

1) Upgrade to the most recent firmware (QA02).

2) Reset M1000 to default settings.

3) Go to Quick Setup and click 'Advanced IP Configuration'.

4) Click to set PPPoA and enter 'PPP User Name' and 'PPP Password' then click apply.

5) Go to 'Utilities' and set time zone.

6) Under 'Advanced Setup' and 'DHCP Settings' change 'Ending IP Address' to match 'Beginning IP Address' (both are 192.168.0.2) and click Apply.

7) Under 'Advanced Setup' and 'QoS' unselect 'Enable IP QoS' to turn QoS off and click Apply.

8) Under 'Advanced Setup' and 'Firewall Settings' make sure 'Off' is selected and click Apply. Click apply even if 'Off' was already selected! (Not sure this step is still needed with the QA02 firmware, but it was with the previous firmware and I still do it.)

9) Under 'Advanced Setup' and 'DMZ Hosting' select 'On' and enter 192.192.0.2 ans the DMZ host, then click Apply.

Now you are done configuring the M1000. Please note the DMZ will Forward EVERYTHING to the router, so the modem with NOT be acting as a firewall when setup like this. After configuring you router to work like you want I would power down both the modem and the router. Wait like 30 seconds then power on the modem. Then after modem is up and running power on router.

You can also try bridging the modem and letting the router connect to the IP using PPPoE (assuming your router can do this). Many recommend this. But every time I have tried bridging, the router has run into problems reconnecting to the IP with PPPoE when it gets disconnected, and I have to reboot modem and router to reconnect.

Please Help!! Actiontech M1000 -WRT54GC Configuration Issues

anon : Hi, I recently hooked up and installed a Actiontech M1000 DSL modem through Qwest and also a linksys WRT54GC router. I can get internet through a web browser, but I am having problems configuring my network and getting port forwarding to work.

I am by no means a noobie with networking, just kinda confused with some of the configuring that is going on.

So to start. I installed my M1000 and changed the local IP to 192.168.0.99 (because it was interfering with connecting to the router configuration). After i started to get data coming through that I connected the m1000 to the wrt54gc router via a normal ethernet connection. I then have my computer plugged into the first port on the router. I also am using two computers that are getting wireless from the router.

I'm adding the ports to be forwarded in the router, but even after i configure my bittorrent client (on two machines) it says that the listening port is not open/unavailable. (another interesting note-- it says that it cant find an open port on the M1000 IP address (71.33.173.215), not the local IP address of the machines, that should be assigned by the router ie 192.168.101)

Here are some stats on the two devices

Actiontech M1000
ISP Protocol: PPPoE
IP: 71.33.173.215
DNS: 205.171.2.65
DNS: 205.171.3.65
ATM Encapsulation: LLC Bridged
Subnet: 255.255.255.0

WTR54GC

DHCP Enabled
IPs start at 192.168.1.100
DNS: 192.168.1.100
DNS: 205.171.2.65

This has been driving me crazy and I think I just have a few things configured wrong..

Any Help would be greatly appreciated

Sorry for the long post, thank you in advance!!!
