:Hello,
I recently purchased a used G5 iMac, and I'm in the process of getting everything cleaned up to give it to my Mom. I've run into some problems. To start, it didn't come with the install CDs, so a clean installation of Tiger is unfortunately out of the question.
1) Even after creating a new user with admin privileges, I am still unable to delete the main account of the previous owner (system preferences -> accounts). For some reason, the main account (listed under "My Account") does not allow the user to delete it by clicking on the "-" symbol next to the "+". Is there a work around for this? The original users name pops-up everywhere, and it's a little annoying!
2) When I'm trying to import files into iPhoto, it tells me that: "Couldn't create: /Users/oldusersname/Pictures/iPhotoLibrary/2008....filename" What is the deal here? Did I mess-up the location of the folder or something? Some files work, some don't. At the end of trying to import them, it reads: "they may be an unrecognized file type or the files may not contain valid data". WTF?
3) After I installed some software, setup Mail, and changed some other settings, I restarted the computer. When it rebooted, the settings were back like they were when I first started it up; the values weren't saved! I've reset them, and after rebooting, they "stick" now, but I've never had anything like that happen before.
So far, this is it! Thanks for any help!
Why didn't it come with the OS X install DVD? Contact Apple, give them the serial number from your system unit, and tell them you need the original operating system and software DVD and/or CDs that shipped with your system. They should supply them to you at a nominal/reasonable charge.
