Re: Cry... It is the consensus of geeks worldwide that offsite backup is the only real backup. This can be done one of two ways: sneakernet or internet. The latter makes much more sense because nothing physical has to be moved from point A to point B in an effort to keep the stuff on that media safe. The data just goes over the network.
But wait...with crap...er...caps, you can't back up all your videos (not movies, videos...the ones you take yourself), photos and other rich media, and cloud computing stops working the way it should.
Microsoft is working on Midori, a cloud computing centric OS. It ain't gonna work on a capped broadband infrastructure nearly as well as a regular desktop...looks like Microsoft will get a lot of FiOS customers but few others for their new concept :/ |

| Once companies are required to show everything relevant about their service, the numbers can be used as a basis for competition. It worked well enough for download speeds, there was a real push to keep improving them. As more people hit transfer caps, and the information is available, there will be a competition to provide higher transfer caps. |
