urbanriot : Yea, switching to OpenDNS will actually make your lookups slower, and is completely unnecessary as we just discussed (as well as discussed in the thread Airwolf posted). Cogeco has two other DNS servers that work fine when one goes awry and if you're experiencing issues when a single DNS server goes down, as we just discussed, you have a problem.

Before my router was randomly choosing which one to chat with.
Attaboy... by design, most systems are supposed to query the primary DNS server then rollover to secondary systems on failure.

Windows, for example, queries the primary DNS server on the primary NIC, the queries the primary DNS server on every NIC, then queries all DNS servers on all NICS three more times until it gives up. This all happens in a matter of seconds. On Vista it's about 18 seconds to do all of those steps until it leads to a complete failure.

So, users with normally functioning machines that are plugged directly into a modem or use a router that passes along the ISP DNS servers to the client machines should never experience a problem if a DNS server fails. Of course, most routers should have that failover routine as well.
