Cogent also had a fair number of customers elect to not renew their contracts largely due to the recent Cogent/Telia depeering incident. They took a similar hit when they depeered with Level(3) a few years back. Actually, I believe that the depeering incident with Level 3, three years ago, began with Level 3 depeering Cogent first. Then Cogent fired back. They were both forced to make nice or else in the fall of 2005.
Cogent has met resistance with it's efforts to enter the European market--European carriers depeered when Cogent bought in to the market, which has complicated their efforts since they have to route traffic back to the US and then back to Europe. |
