| reply to cork1958 Re: Frequently changing IP addresses
This is just a theory.
Perhaps they discovered that certain people have been using a "residential" connection to host servers and such, even if such services might not use a lot of resources?
I once knew a fellow who had an IP address that changed so infrequently, that he could remember it and it would actually be good for months.
DDNS is one way to get around the technical issue.
However, it means violating the T.O.S. If I recall correctly, the prohibition on servers on residential connections is so broadly defined that it includes services such as:
- SSH Server (even single user) - RDP/VNC (even single user) - BitTorrent (every user is a client and a server)
Or anything else that provides a service to the outside world.
To avoid this B.S. and to get a static IP, I simply got the Business service. It's more expensive, but at least support seems competent. |

I doubt their T.O.S. specifically points out that protocol either... |

It just says no servers on residential accounts. It doesn't specify or elaborate on types of servers, so I'm assuming it can mean anything that performs a server-like function. Even things which in my mind don't quite count. |
