1 edit | When an account hasn't logged in for a long period of time (I believe it's 180 days but may be a year), that account name becomes available for others to choose. When another account chooses that name, the original name is changed to having a number at the end. That's my guess as to what happened, since there's now a steevo2  account here which signed up last month.

My guess would be that account inactivity led to your username being made available to someone else. No activity for a year and usernames are up for grabs. I think the system (or Justin) just appends your old name by some numeric to keep the account for you. No one's account is terminated by inactivity, but usernames do become available for use by someone else after a year.
