jc100 posted : Actually, Ignorance starts with you bud. YOUR LICENSE is a PRIVILEGE granted by states. That can be revoked. HOWEVER, ONE IS FREE to still BICYCLE on Public Roads even w/o said license. A police officer can't arrest you for legally riding your bike on a road, either. Guess what, All for "free" too!!! Your taxes PAY FOR THOSE ROADS. Therefore, how about growing a brain? I know, that's kind of difficult with a deficit to start.

As per your Military Question, Yes I can buy military equipment (deemed legal to own under the law). It's called an ARMY SURPLUS STORE. --- FAIL

As for the White House, Tax payers own it.
Knutsont posted : Wow. You really are ignorant and apparently proud of it. Driving on public roads is not a right. It is a privilege, and that privilege can be revoked as well. If you don't believe me, ask a judge if you can be stripped of that privilege. Being supplemented or purchased with tax dollars is absolutely not a sufficient condition to deem something as a right to any individual or to the public at large. Do you think you have any rights to any particular piece military equipment, the White House or any given chunk of airspace? What about VA hospitals for non-military? Do you think you have any rights to gasoline or airline travel (both supplemented)? That said, notice has been given about the transition and quite substantially. The job has been done, and if you really think about it, catering to the lowest common denominator is as asinine as your arguments.

jc100 posted : Actually, receiving OTA is a RIGHT, not a privilege. Nice Try though. I like your flawed thinking. When your tax dollars go to supplementing or paying for it, there is an entitlement. When its done AT NO COST to the tax payer, then it's a privilege. That's why PUBLIC roads don't charge tolls, while private roads do. You have a PUBLIC right to drive on them for free. Your taxes ALREADY paid for the expense. The same with the DTV transition. The government is footing the bill and using tax dollars to transition. Not to mention, they profited off the sale of the OTA spectrum. Hence, there is entitlement that everyone is aware and can receive what is PUBLICLY paid for. Anyway, I thought I'd inform you of your ignorance. It's my duty as an American to point out the flawed and lack of thinking in others.

Obviously not. The fact that the DTV website is in many languages is not the point. The point here is ELDERLY PEOPLE, ARE NOT INFORMED. Why, well older people tend not to understand the changes that take place. Sure, the website is in various languages. PEOPLE HAVE TO UNDERSTAND HOW TO GET THERE IN THE FIRST PLACE. Does that not click? I highly doubt 70 and 80 year old senior citizens are tech savvy enough, when people 50+ aren't. That is all fine and wonderful to reach younger people, but you still run into the problem of elderly people of ALL BACKGROUNDS and NATIONALITIES getting there to read it. I only see TV ads in English, too. Hence, if Asian Grandma who doesn't speak English doesn't understand what's going on she's out of luck. The same literally for all seniors who might not understand the change. Does that hit home, or no? I'm guessing no.

As per the government getting faster internet, I am for increased broadband penetration. HOWEVER, that is optional. Read this word slowly. O-P-T-I-O-N--A-L. With a national broadband policy, PEOPLE ARE NOT FORCED to have broadband. Any improvements made to the system are not ones that require much change, anyway. All changes are on the isp side. If you get fiber, the most that might need done is an upgrade in your modem. Quite simple. Hell, the ISP will come in and do that for you. When it comes to DTV, this is NOT OPTIONAL. Hence, those who don't understand what is going on will be out of luck. There's no TV guy visiting everyone's house to say here's why your signal doesn't work, like an ISP would do with broadband. Not to mention those living in retirement communities that aren't labeled as single dwellings will be forced to buy the equipment on their retirement checks.

Texans / Texas .... I'm learning every day just how ignorant this state and it's people are ever since I moved here a few months back.

1. If elderly Americans were in China, do you think the Chinese government would lift one finger or spend anything whatsoever to inform them in English of changes in anything?

2. Receiving OTA television signal is a privilege, not a right. I don't see any legislation anywhere that spells out an individual's right to receive a particular bit of programming on any given EM frequency. All spectrum is privileged by our controlling government and sold off to broadcasters as such. Receipt of said signal is completely in the individual’s hands, and no one, including the government, has any incumbent responsibility to ensure anyone receives it. If someone chooses to live underground, should the government drill a hole to them to ensure they get TV signal? I don't think so! The fact that the government, or any other group, is spending any time or money to inform anyone is beyond their responsibility. Our government does it so its constituents don't get pissed when their TVs go dead (many will anyway), and to help justify closing down the analog spectrum so they can resell it. So if elderly Asian Americans don't get the message, then yes, they are out of luck. Keep in mind that is by their own choice of lifestyle. If they loose the privilege of picking up a signal that is freely broadcast in the air, and they don't know why, perhaps it will convince them to search out the information for themselves and ultimately do them some good. Anyone who chooses to be isolated in any country, and then gets surprised when something happens that they didn't expect or didn't realize was coming, is simply fooling themselves of their own ignorance.
