This seems to contradict the stereotype of Asians being up on technology.

I'm sure there are plenty of other ethnic groups that may be in the dark also.

Also, if they are that isolated culturally they probably aren't watching American programming. They probably subscribe to satellite for international programming.

Stereotypes are there for a reason, because the majority of them seem to have met that particular "stereotype", or conform to something that qualifies as one.

Yes, it fits. They seem to be up on gadgets at least, especially cameras.
