1800HG 2wire usb router and Vista

Hello, I'll get straight to the point! My friend has windows Vista and in device manager, his 2wire router is showing up as a exclamation mark. He is currently suffering from a BSOD Bad Pool Caller. I have googled this and seems to be down to a driver error. So I put 2 & 2 together and came up with his 2wire router must be the problem. (Driver). I have searched for a vista driver for the 1800HG but cant find one! I have downloaded a XP driver for it. Anyone know if this driver will work? Anyone know how to solve this whole problem? Thanks for your time!

(I am planning on going round to his this week and getting this all sorted one way or another (remove vista put xp on is the last resort) Hopefully I can get round this simply with your help)

Many thanks

Re: 1800HG 2wire usb router and Vista

The driver for the direct USB connection on his 2wire gateway is for Windows 98/Me/2K/XP and was never meant to work with Vista. Instead of loading XP it would probably be easier for him to switch from the direct usb to a ethernet connection (his 1800HG has a four port 10/100 baseTX switch as well as usb , hpna, and wifi)

If he has an ethernet port, why connect with usb? It should be fine, no need to use usb and no drivers required
