| Slow DNS
Browsing has been very slow today, due to long delays in DNS look-ups. Slowdowns like this happen periodically here, but today was especially bad and persistent.
Needed to find a work-around since I'm setting up a PC for a client.
I was amazed by the speed-up after switching to OpenDNS servers in place of CenturyTel's DNS server(s).
Is there an effective way to report this to someone at CenturyTel who could confirm, trace, and resolve this recurring problem? |

As a computer support provider I have a broader view; Users need CenturyTel to fix this because:
• DNS should be as reliable and efficient as the rest of CenturyTel's service
• OpenDNS is a free service which could be shut down, or fall under less scrupulous ownership / management
• Each computer must be configured separately, unless you trust OpenDNS enough to turn your router over to them
• OpenDNS setup instructions currently fail for Mac OSX Leopard wireless users |

| Call the helpdesk and make sure you have the right DNS servers for your area. There are multiple servers, and even I as an employee found out I was using the wrong DNS servers a while back when they updated them. Most modems/etc will update automatically, but I manually set mine for other reasons. I switched them, and voila, problem solved.
