Ipod Touch Frozen on Apple Icon

Hi,
My Itouch 16G software V2.0.1 seems to be freezing up these past couple days...yesterday it happened when I was deleting some useless Apps that I had installed weeks ago...Today I was installing an App...by the way this Itouch is not jailbroken, nor has it ever been. Everything on the device is legit. In both cases mentioned above, the damn thing looks like it resets itself and then remains frozen on the "Apple" logo screen...I've reset it countless times (holding the top and home buttons together) and still stays frozen on "Apple" logo..i connect it to sync...nothing..still frozen. Yesterday I got it to work after connecting it and letting Itunes do its thing (backup and sync) but i had to reset and connect/disconnect numberous times before itunes finally recognized it...tried that today with no success...
I quickly scanned around to see if anyone else was getting this issue.. couldn't find anyone that was....please help

Thanks

I'm guessing you're out of warranty? If so, I'd restore, but first delete the old restore file and iTunes should begin the download.

Good Luck!

Actually no...its only a month old....
I'm guessing by restore you mean connect the device to iTunes and click the restore button, but how do you delete the "old files" (and why) and then restore? Step by step if possible please

Thank you

Have you tried this?

Hey thanks Tango...I don't have Itunes installed here at work. I'll have to wait til i get home to try...just a couple questions if i may:

1. Will doing this process erase "everything" off the iTouch? ...i don't care about the songs I can always sync those up again..i'm more concerned with what will happen to the apps.

2. What will happen if i download and install iTunes here on my work machine? will it completely wipe the apps off and uninstall them..will i have to reinstall them individually like the first time i got them all? ( i guess the same question as the first)

Thanks

Wow....well that just sucks....and this all happened when I was either deleting or installing an app off the itouch itself....So then I'm guessing that if I'm going to install or update an app i should NEVER do it from the device again...instead I should do this from itunes and sync them up to the itouch?

Ok, so then by your answer given above...is it the same if I were to install Itunes on my work PC and just do a restore from here?...or is it best to do all this from home where my apps are already synced into my Itunes there?
Just so i don't have to waste time doing all this when I get home tonight.

Thanks again Tango

If you do it at work and are successful, it will just save you time and you will know if the device is toast or if the issue was software related.

ok...i will try it here ...Here is what I'm hoping for after I restore from work (which is new installation of itunes)... I can just go home, connect the device to my itunes there and resync all the apps that were backup on that itunes back onto the device, saving me the time of having to find each app individually and installing them

thanks

ok...I was able to "unfreeze" the damn thing...I didn't have to restore at all...granted Itunes was giving me a little grief at first by freezing up and having to kill it and restart it a few times...but then it recognized my Itouch and all the music and apps on there...i look over at the device and it's no longer on the apple logo, its on the battery charging logo (which is a good thing)...I eject it then disconnect it and I'm able to get back to my home screen with all my apps intact...even forced rebooted , just for good measure...

All seems ok now but this is going to be a hassle if this continues to happen....I'm no longer going to install or update any apps via the Itouch again...I'll do all that from my itunes now.....what i pain in the ass!

Thanks to Titus and Tango

I have had that happen a few times, I just let it sit for a few minutes and it seems to start working on it's own.

Glad to hear you're working again! I suggested that you delete the old restore file (the update firmware file) to preclude restoring from a bad file (in case the downloaded file was corrupted in any way). It's a long shot, and the setup checks for this anyway, but if you Called Apple and got to that point a rep would have likely had you take this step.

If the iPod is a less than month old I would call Apple support if this happens again; that's part of what you pay for

Later~
