| How to keep a phone line for DSL & Dish but drop the service I read somewhere that we can keep a phone line open at our VR but cancel the phone number. How do I do that without canceling the phone line part that we need for our Hi Speed Internet and the Dish Satellite TVs When I call Verzion I want to make sure that the DSL and TVs will still be working. What exactly do I ask them to cancel and what to I want them to leave on?

| The only thing that will happen to your dish is after a month or two you will not be able to order PPV. They detect it's not dialing in so they send a signal to your receivers to disable PPV. The guide is downloaded from the satellite but it has no way to upload data (PPV purchases and ?maybe private viewing data?)

| you will also get a nice logo on all channel to call dish and then pay $5 per receiver if not connected to phone line on top of all receiver charges u already pay.
do this logon to your verizon account click add & remove services there u will find phone package starting from $5 i think for unlimited incoming calls and 25 local outgoing calls specially made for your dish receiver.
change it online if u call they will say they don't exist to make u pay more. | |

| Also depends on receiver/service, especially with so many on CELL only these days, many do have USB or Ethernet connectivity as well.
Again depends how old the receiver you have is, if you own or lease it, and many other variables.

Mine works the way joako describes. You can't do anything that requires the box to call in, order movies, check billing on screen, etc. I've seen nag screens years ago about no phone line, but no extra charge. Haven't had a phone on mine for a couple years. To tell you the truth, Dish couldn't care less where the box is at. Your smart card only works 1 box. You are paying a per box fee to keep it active.
For clarity, I own all my boxes. If they rent any, they may put different conditions on them. | |

Do they need an active phone line or just a phone line to transmit/send the signals/data whatever its called that gets the shows/programs to the TVs?

| This is the reply I got from DISH. Can anyone tell me what they are trying to tell me. I think I can do the Dry Loop and get the Dish Programing from the answer but I want to be sure. I also think that from the other answers I have gotten on this forum.

Thank you for your email. We apologize for any inconvenience this has
caused. As you may be aware, when you have more than one receiver at
your house, you are charged an Additional Outlet fee. The fee is $5 for
each additional unit active on the account. Our dual tuner receivers
are basically two units with one box. When we developed them, we wanted
to allow customers to save some money and have access to all of the
receiver's features. We waive the $5 Access Fee on the dual tuners if
you keep the receiver continuously connected to a phone line. We also
have a feature for our HD dual tuner receivers called IP Callback which
offers similar features through a broadband internet connection instead
of a phone line. | |

You have the option of connecting set-top-box to a phone line or to your LAN. Even if you decide to keep your phone line connecting to your LAN is less intrusive as it no longer ties up the phone line when it calls home.
Either connection allows the set top box to call home to Dish.

By having the DVR connected to the network I can test DirecTV On Demand programming. I can watch most of my favorites show when I want to see them. | |

| I appreciate all the replies, the problem is I'm not a very technical person so all this talk about Ethernet ports and DVR, (I do know what that is) hook ups, Lans etc don't help me.
Back to my original question if I dry loop my phone I know the DSL will work, will the Dish programing still come through. This is the answer Dish sent me what exactly are they stating Thanks
