Re: Computer to TV devices?

Yeah, I have an Xbox360 that I've thought of using...but my main compy is a Mac, and they don't play as nicely together as I'd like. I think retrofitting my "gaming" pc to an HTPC is probably still my best option.

XBMC, the best media extender out there (until they crack the Xbox360).
The Xbox 360 can do a lot these days:

Hmmm.. Looking for something wireless. I do have a "spare" PC that I could retrofit into an HTPC (it has a wireless card.) Would that be the best route? Just buy an HTPC case and be done with it? It'd need to be full ATX...

Hauppauge makes a media extender (Wireless Media MVP) with a remote that will stream audio and video files from your computer / router by wireless G. The older version is around $140.00. It will stream audio files and up to DVD quality video. There is a newer and more expensive version for hi-def video, a faster router is probably required...

There are SAGEtv versions of the media extender that will work with SAGEtv software, allowing you to install a TV tuner card (and probably another hard drive)on your computer and use it as a DVR. You could then choose to record or view shows with the Media Extender remote, pause live TV, etc...

You could consider putting together a home theater computer and networking it with your other one... Allows you to play all file formats... gaming... running a tuner card and DVR software on either computer (whichever one you want to leave on all the time), etc... As I upgrade my computer, all the old stuff goes to the HT computer. It's controlled by a Logitech wireless keyboard / touchpad that works great. There's a game pad with a USB extension cord for gaming...

I seen one but it was video/audio wireless devise (No VGA) and it worked pretty good. It was in a warehouse going through just one wall about 60' a way. They ran it to an LCD projector in the other room. Forgot the brand but they said it was about $125 I believe.

Hey all,

Just got a new 42" LCD and I love it. Problem is, it's in a different room from my PC - and I'd like to stream photos/video/music etc to it. House isn't wired and running a wire isn't really an option. I do have a wireless router though. Any suggestions for ways to show these things on my TV? One option is something like the Apple TV - I was just hoping for something cheaper.
