But WHAT would you have to pay if you jumped ship BEFORE your CONTRACT was up? thats the "gotcha".

You have been able to get free installs for awhile now.Every time I have looked into getting satellite based HD service I have always been asked to buy the boxes. I don't know if that is still the case now though, as I have not looked in the past few months, so maybe things have changed.

Let's go on the assumption that I would still have to purchase the equipment. Even if I got the one box at a discount I would to purchase at least 2. That alone would mean a significant outflow of cash out of my pocket.

On top of that, if I decided I did not like the service, then I would be stuck with a box that would not work with any other provider.

While this is not quite related to satellite "broadband" I am glad I rent my cable box. If there is any problem that I do not personally cause I just tell Comcast to get me a replacement.
