<description><![CDATA[Schmoodle posted : OK,  downloaded wirelessmon (nice program, will probably pay for it!) and I can see both APs.<br><br>When I am upstairs, 5 feet from the router, I get -30Db on the one I am connected to and -75 on the one downstairs.<br><br>Then I go downstairs and after a minute or so I am at -40 on the downstairs because I switched to that.<br><br>I have to be right on top of them to get -20.  If I am 5-6 feet away it is -30 to -40.]]></description>

Program is 100% freeware.  20dB is the transmit RF power that's what you should be getting. So you use a Linksys for the main, do you have that dd-wrt or tomato as the firmware also?<br><br>Static IP on everything well in DHCP Client listing out assign the DHCP reserve on nodes you want have those IP adresses without going static IP for everything. I only use static on  WAP1, WAP2 and WDS1.  I see you have NAS in the mix. <br><br>Is the one DIR-655 enough, how about those laptops are they showing excellent over 20dB? ]]></description>

That's choice is up to you anyway.<br><br>SSID should be the same as the one you're using?<br><br>SSID: Schmmodle<br><br>Yes if you want G to use use G-only don't mix it and use the WPA AES for security. <br><br>You have to explain more what's going on. Make sure everything is set for G54 performance on the wireless NIC if you have that features. Connect to Best Speed don't force it to connect at 54 otherwise you might not able to connect at all. <br><br>Did you give the second DIR-655 a static IP and then use the first Router to Reserved that IP address?]]></description>

<description><![CDATA[Schmoodle posted : I have 2 DIR-655's<br><br>Primary downstairs in the office<br>DHCP on<br>Connected to 5 port GB switch (D-link) and 3 other devices<br>FW 1.11<br><br>Secondary is upstairs in family room<br>DHCP off<br>Several devices connected<br>FW 1.20<br><br>GB Cat5e cable between the two, SSID is the same for both.  Both are set up with wireless channel on "auto" and channel width on "20MHz."<br><br>All clients use 802.11G, not N<br><br>Here's my questions.<br><br>What is the best configuration for the best G troughput?  If I turn it to "G only" will that be best?  <br><br>We roam between the two a lot and I am concerned that having both set to the same SSID allows me to roll back and forth without disconnecting and reconnecting (important for my non-tech wife), but sometimes my strength shows ~25% close to the downstairs router.  Feels like I might still be connected upstairs....<br><br>Any thoughts or inputs are appreciated.]]></description>
