Help with modem/router config

Howdy all. I'm having some trouble getting my modem to work through my router. I've activated my DSL line and it is working fine when I plug my modem (a Westell 6100) directly to my computer, but I am trying to use my wireless router (a Linksys WRT54G) to set up a home network. I noticed there was an IP conflict (both devices default to 192.168.1.1) and I've changed the IP on my router to 192.168.1.2. However, plugging the modem's ethernet cable into the router's WAN port yields no connectivity. Pinging 192.168.1.1 fails. Any advice?

Does this help:

»Verizon Online DSL FAQ »How do I setup my Linksys router with Verizon?

I found that FAQ after posting (which made me feel kind of stupid) but I'm still having some difficulty. The modem is a Westell 6100F and 192.168.1.254 does not bring anything up. 192.168.1.1 does and (I think) I was able to change it to bridged mode after looking around a bit. However I still have no internet connectivity through my router. I have changed the router settings from DHCP to PPPOE and put my @verizon.net email in the username and my password in the password field, then powered down the modem and router. Then I powered up the modem, power up the router, and connect to the router but still I have nothing.

No need to feel stupid. I can point ppl to FAQs but I can't provide the help our members can in here. So I'll leave that to them. They are pretty good at this.

Try cloning the mac address in the router, then release it in the modem. Power it all down and try again, If you are on DHCP, you dont need the email/password.

(the internet light doesnt come on, on the modem)

If it was working on Dhcp, keep it on that, Obtain ip automatically

Linksys »linksys.custhelp.com/cgi-bin/lin···37401B03 PPPOE version

put my @verizon.net email in the username and my password in the password field,
Not clear, but only the username, of the username@verizon.net part of the email address goes in the modem.

edit: chipz, your connection is DHCP, not PPPoE

You need to put that modem (6100) into bridge mode to work with the router. You may also have to disable the WBA (web based activation) feature in order to bridge it. Best bet would be to call VZ tech support to walk you through bridging it - it can be tricky.

You said you had it in bridge mode, just in case heres a step by step:

»verizon.myseoblog.net/how-to-set···ge-mode/.

Worked for me.

(note: if it's a new modem, or you have to reset to factory defaults, you will have to disable the "Walled Garden" so that you can surf)..see here:

This blog of a tech support agent help me a lot. I talked with 4 agents and non of them helped me.... I was frustrated to bridge my modem. My PC was not recognizing the linksys mac until I stumbled in this blog »verizon.myseoblog.net/category/t···hooting/

I contacted the owner and he is very generous to email me answers to all my questions... There are still people who wanted to help other people even outside they paying time..
