| Have to use TWC's rental wireless router?
I posted in another thread about some inconsistent speeds through my Netgear router. I just want to know if what the TWC repair man said to me is true...
He told me that TWC does not allow you to use your own store-bought Wireless Router and that whenever their system detects it, it will cut me off. He said I can live with it and just keep resetting the modem and router every time that happens, or I can rent their router and pay the monthly fee for it.
Is this accurate??? |

@applsys.com | reply to JasonMerrick You can use your own router, but they will not give you support for it. If you have a problem, just connect your modem directly to your pc, then when they fix your problem, reconnect the router. |

| reply to TTcntrctr101 This very much depends on the tech. I've had some eye my router with suspicion and others who say "oh I don't care about that". It is just the luck of the draw. If they're in a bad mood I do think it is TECHNICALLY true that you're not supposed to run your own router. I'd have to go read the ToS to be sure.
In any case, some routers actually do cause problems and a novice user would find it quite helpful to use TWC equipment. If you have a TWC router then can reach in and, sometimes, adjust it remotely. It depends on your level of expertise on whether you want to admin your own router or let them do it. |

| reply to JasonMerrick I appreciate all the replies, I have been using a wireless router with RR for a few years myself, but with the intermittent problems I've been having, thought maybe this was some new thing their system was doing.
The tech reset my router while he was here and pointed out the check mark symbol and said the reason it turned off was because it wasn't a TWC piece of equipment and the system was telling it that it wasn't compatible.
So I read the Netgear manual and found this: Checkmark is ON: The unit is performing the power on self test diagnostic. Checkmark is OFF: The unit successfully completed the power on self test diagnostic.
I just ordered a new Linksys WRT110, so hopefully that will clear up my issues. |

Just like I swear Florida Power & Light is causing power surges to extort their extra $8.95 a month surge protection fee. Real simple look at a map of surge protection fee paying customers, no one in that area is subscribing to the service let's give them a power surge and ruin some stuff! That'll teach'em not to pay! Smacks of a Mafia protection racket. |
