Stereo Reccomendations

Hey all, I am going to do music at a family party this weekend and I was wondering if this would be loud enough and powerful enough to play outside in someones 1 acre backyard and sound good?

Basically what I am going to do is bring my laptop and play MP3s, so would this be better then, only 200watt but cheaper, smaller and is jsut speakers which is all I really need.

You could do a combination of this: »www.radioshack.com/product/index···e=search

Plus this: »www.radioshack.com/product/index···e=search

Much tougher and easier to move around than your first choice.

Your second choice won't really carry anywhere. It's also designed for a 'closed space' like a room. Outdoors won't work as great.

So that amp will work fine with those speakers, not too powerful or not too under powered? The speakers will produce music nicely? All of this will be powerful enough for a 1 acre or so back yard? I can plug my laptop into the amp and then the speakers into the amp? You would suggest 2 speakers right?

They have a higher power amp available but for twice the price, I was trying to keep in your range.

Those speakers are better suited for what you're trying to do than what you showed at first. Sound carries outside, so it should be fine.

The amp I showed will work but you won't be able to fully crank it. The higher power would be better suited but I didn't know what your budget was.

Either the Sony stereo or the Logitech computer speakers should work fine. Buy whatever one you'd want to use in your house after the event... I'm assuming you just want background music and maybe a dance area close to the sound system... and you're not trying to reach rock concert levels throughout the 1 acre area...

If I was going to buy PA equipment...

1. I wouldn't go to Radio Shack.

2. I wouldn't buy a 40 watt mono amp for a mainly music application...

3. You will not get impressive sound pressure levels trying to power 2 PA speakers with a 40 watt mono amp. You'll end up with thin sound and you'd be apt to damage the amp or speakers trying to get more out of them.

Either of the stereo solutions you're looking at will sound much better than the recommended PA rig and will be almost as loud.

If you really wanted to go with a PA system for a little more "muscle" outdoors... I'd look at a Stereo amp with at least 100 watts per side. I'd look for speakers with 12" or 15" woofers because PA speakers are designed more for efficiency than bass extension. The smaller ones often have a very "tinny" sound. I'd think about picking up a cheap pair of tripod stands for any half-size (1 woofer) PA speakers.

You really wouldn't need such a full-featured mixer for your application. Although, if you're going to own a PA system why not have one... You could do karaoke, etc... You might be able to put together something with a cheap preamp, a basic power amp and a decent pair of speakers a little cheaper. The Kustom brand speakers are an excellent value brand. Probably not though... the package deals with the mixer / amps are hard to beat and even include cables.

There's probably a place near you where you could rent PA equipment for an event...

Try to beg borrow an old amplifier (many have one in their basement) and some large speakers.

or

Try a Taylor Rental or similar place to hire some equipment.

Thanks all for the suggestions, I will definately be purchasing one of thos packages, they look awesome. However I decided not to at this time.

My parents have an older receiever & really good infinity speakers that I have used before, that I will once again use.

I do evetually want to get something a little more useful.
