| I went yesterday to go get some H2O and other stuff. All the stores are already almost sold out of water. One said they are getting an emergency shipment in on Friday, but after that they are not getting any more. If you haven't stocked up on supplies you better hurry.

Then again, my bro-in-law's restaurant will need help cleaning out their refrigerator should they lose power.

| Re: Gustav One of my friends went spear fishing recently. He stocked my freezer up with fish. In case of an extended power outage I will be grilling lots of fish and shrimps.
For some reason every time I go to the store I crave beans and buy them. I never really eat them as fast as I buy them so I have lots of beans to keep me happy.
Remember that Monday night UT plays UCLA. Get stocked up on beer and try to pace yourself. That will get your hurricane party started right. Go Vols.

I'm mostly prepared. What I don't like is if they enable conta-flow, you HAVE to go west which is in the path right now. Well, I could go north, but hotels are booked thru Jackson, MS. I'd rather go east.

This will be a live camera in Baton Rouge.
About to go to work and make sure all my computers, generators, and other stuff is ok. Start a fresh back up of all data. I have to finish getting all the grills and yard furniture inside the house and check and make sure all the drains around here are not full of crap. Then I have to go get me a couple of new books and some more beef jerky. I ate a lot of my stash yesterday after the LSU game. Moving the game to 10 am and not getting my tailgate time in was sort of strange. Stay safe everyone.

| Re: Gustav Yeah I will be around. I have plenty of supplies. I am just a few minutes from were I work and I have to sort of make sure everything stays up and running if possible. I have a lot of people that will be connecting from around the country on the terminal servers to cover for people here. Hopefully at least one of our providers will stay up. My place should be fine. It is on higher ground and besides a few oaks there isn't much around to damage it. If I loose power for extended amounts of time I will probably spend a lot of time in our data center acting like I am working and staying cool. Other than that I have a few friends, books, and movies that will be here to entertain and help out.

A friend of mine had a preemie right around Katrina.

| The winds have really picked up. It's not raining alot, just the winds are causing it to be a driving rain.
I still have power and Internet (obviously), so that's a good thing. I'm sure at some time during the day I'll lose both of those as there have been reports of power outages already.
For now everything is ok.

The wind is knocking over my beer-can pyramids, the trees are losing limbs and I'm sure I'll lose power before morning.

| Re: Gustav Fared well, but the news on getting power is NOT good. They said 14 transmission lines that serve our area were down. They have one online, but the rest experienced severe damage. We are basically an island detached from the system. Getting us back on the "grid" could take weeks. If we don't get power (or continue to find gas), we'll be leaving until we do get power.

Our power supply isn't as bad as yours, but we're having a few problems. Some phone service too, but nothing like ya'll's stuff.
Good thing I live on a hill. The little babbling brook in my back yard is about thirty feet wide now.
Hell, If I thought this would have happened, I'd have had a hurricane party Monday. I could do for a "pat-o-brian's" mix right now.

| I drove through baton rouge on my way back in last night. They got some damage in that area. I was just happy to find out that I had power when I got back.
Seen lots of linemen trucks coming down 55.

| I'm back. Still no phones or electric. I set up our whole company network on tons of those Verizon wireless cards. We also bought a ton of Verizon cell phones. That was the only thing working. There are crazy oak trees everywhere. My place is fine, but everything around it is destroyed. There are phone poles, electric lines, and trees still laying around everywhere. That was a crazy storm.
