Same Issue

Ran into the same issue for several weeks trying to get DSL Direct 768. I only needed this line as a backup/test connection as I have Standard RR.

CSR's kept telling me I could not get DSL (too far away) or that the DSLAM was full. CSR's also said my address was not in the database. Magically once I signed up for a land line, 5 days later I was able to get DSL.

I then dropped the land line and have dry DSL.

Thats probably a system issue not a deception issue. The system sometimes doesnt recognize if dsl is available or not at an address, they have to send manual loop qualifications which can only be sent if you have a working phone line at the location. Once you ordered the land line, and the line was installed, that updated the dsl records for that address. Which in turned out that dry loop was available for you.

The CSRs werent being deceptive, they were just telling you the information they had at the time.

Maybe so. They should develop a system so customers don't have to get phone service for 1 month then go through the hassel of switching to dry loop.

Reason I say this, I live in a Condo development and I know my neighboors have DSL so there would be no reason I couldn't get it.

I agree with him, the main point is that when you order service initially if the area has never had service (even phone service) it would be hard for the system not to know. It would ask.. is it new construction? and basically state that it's unavailable. If it happens to get that way try ordering and establishing phone service first. That would generate loop records, and if there is any RT's or Uverse available it would be generated at that time as well.

As far as the other complaint I saw about online dry loop billing, that one is easy to solve as well.

• Go to the AT&T account manager site:
Select: "Register for account manager"
• Since dry loops don't typically have a billing telephone number line normal ones do, click on the link " > Request online registration code(required to register for an account)"
• Fill out the dry loop number and the last digits on there the zip code and finish following the instructions
• the person will get a postal mail in less than 2 business weeks (typically) and it will have your code in there for registering.
