Yes I have 6.0 and Direct DSL cost $5 more per month than the similar speed plan with voice.

Correction: SAME speed.

And yes I don't know why the phone reps say that. But you're not the first person that I hear that experiance from.

I will tell you that ordering online, while mildly confusing, will get you what you want rather quickly with no added sales pitch.

It would definitely be cheaper to buy your own. I've seen modems for as cheap as $7 at a flea market. Even for a nice netopia 3347 modem/router on ebay it'd be well under $75.

kremithefrog,

First, thanks for your replies.

I kind of thought myself they were lying to me, but when I said never mind I am not taking it if I had to have phone service, I thought they would then say I could get it then. I guess the guy felt the internet sale only commission was not worth his trouble. LOL

Apparently their online specials in the link in my first post is for AT&T customers only. Because when I did a online chat with this girl in there, the page to order the internet only, had me getting the DSL Xtreme3.0 for $42.95 not the $37.95 on the link page above. It also did not give me a free modem. She said the modem would cost $75.00.

Would it be better (cheaper) to buy my own modem myself?

P.S. BTW kremithefrog, I noticed in your profile it has you sending $47 with them, is because all you have with them is DSL Xtream 6.0 ?
6.0 is not offered in my area, the highest is the 3.0.

The AT&T customer service rep told me that I could not get DSL without their land line telephone.
Yeah I got that, I just meant they're crazy and lying to you. Try calling again. I don't have the number right now that will get you to the right people. You could call tech support and asked to be transferred to consumer large team sales.

BTW, the house is wired for telephone hookups, but I never had AT&T since I bought the house 3 years ago. The lady that owned the house before me had AT&T, and that is why the house was wired for phone hookups.

You can order direct dsl on line if your address comes up (usually only if it's already had service there). You can order over the phone, not sure who told you that about the land line.

If your home is wired already then there are no install fees.

I called AT&T on the phone about 3 months ago and asked about the internet service with them. I was told by their CS rep that I could not get AT&T internet unless I had a land line phone with then too. (I had just paid an annual fee with Vonage so I did not need another land line phone service) Today I go on-line in their website and see the offer link below, that says I can choose their internet by itself.

1) Does anyone know if they offer just their internet service by way of on-line only?

2) There is no mention of installation fees, so providing you home is wired for a AT&T (mine is) do they just send a modem, and have you hook it up yourself?
