RickPremium,MVM join:2001-02-06 Waterbury, CT | 100 Billion Dollars... over the last 10 years. That's what the cable co's have reportedly spent on their fiber/coax networks.
I'd certainly say that more than entitles them to talk about their fiber as well in their ads. -- The Coyote captured the RR! Roadrunner Rick is now Comcastic! |

EPS join:2008-02-13 Hingham, MA | So you wouldn't mind seeing T, VZ, Q, and the rest advertise DSL (not VDSL or whatever, just your standard ADSL) as fiber networks too, right? Because the telcos spend TONS of money on their overall network upgrades too. (Operating any sort of network is very, very expensive) |

That seems high, if my number is right that Comcast spent $6 billion last year on network maintenance.

EPS join:2008-02-13 Hingham, MA | reply to funchords There are quite a few cable companies other than Comcast... If Comcast spent $6 billion last year, then ten years of that (factoring in Comcast's predecessor companies like AT&T Broadband) is $60 billion, so that leaves $40 billion for Cox, Time Warner Cable, and the rest, which doesn't seem too ridiculous. |

EPS join:2008-02-13 Hingham, MA | Well he said fiber/coax networks, which I would assume includes both... I'm not sure if figures that separate last-mile coax expenses from fiber expenses even exist for the publicly traded cable companies, and even less likely for the privately owned ones. |
